Rajnath Singh Highlights India’s 7.7% GDP Growth, Says Economy Remains World’s Fastest-Growing Major Economy

The CSR Journal Magazine

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday hailed India’s economic performance after the country recorded 7.7 per cent GDP growth in the financial year 2025-26, describing it as evidence of the resilience and strength built through a decade of reforms and economic transformation.

In a post on X, Singh said India continues to distinguish itself as the world’s fastest-growing major economy at a time when several countries are grappling with economic uncertainty, inflationary pressures and slowing growth.

He noted that economic growth accelerated to 7.8 per cent in the fourth quarter of FY 2025-26, reflecting the underlying strength of the Indian economy and the impact of policies centred on the government’s mantra of “Reform, Perform, Transform”.

Growth Amid Global Economic Challenges

Singh said the latest GDP figures demonstrate India’s ability to maintain strong economic momentum despite a challenging global environment marked by geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and uncertainty in major economies.

According to the Defence Minister, the sustained growth trajectory reflects the cumulative impact of reforms undertaken over the past 12 years, which have helped strengthen the country’s economic foundations and improve resilience against external shocks.

His remarks come after the release of official economic data showing stronger-than-expected growth during the financial year, exceeding earlier projections.

PM Modi’s Leadership Credited For Economic Performance

Praising PM Modi, Singh said India has successfully combined rapid economic expansion with stability, confidence, sustainability and credibility on the global stage.

He credited the Prime Minister’s focus on infrastructure development, innovation, entrepreneurship and long-term nation-building for transforming India into a more resilient and globally respected economic power.

According to Singh, the government’s ability to navigate unprecedented international challenges while maintaining growth has reinforced investor confidence and enhanced India’s standing among major economies.

He added that the country’s economic progress continues to create opportunities for citizens while advancing the broader goal of building a developed nation under the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.

Growth Surpasses Earlier Estimates

The Defence Minister’s comments follow observations by Saurabh Garg, who said India’s GDP growth of 7.7 per cent in FY 2025-26 exceeded expectations outlined in the Second Advance Estimates.

Garg noted that the stronger-than-anticipated performance reflects the robustness of the Indian economy and its ability to withstand global economic headwinds.

On Friday, PM Modi also welcomed the latest growth figures, stating that India continues to demonstrate resilience despite global uncertainty. He congratulated citizens for the country’s economic achievements and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating development through reforms and innovation.

The Prime Minister said India would continue moving forward on the path of “Reform, Perform and Transform” with determination, even as global economies face significant challenges.

The latest growth data is expected to bolster confidence in India’s economic outlook, with policymakers highlighting strong domestic demand, infrastructure investment and structural reforms as key drivers supporting continued expansion. As India pursues its long-term development agenda, the government has maintained that sustained high growth will remain central to achieving the goal of becoming a developed economy in the coming decades.
