Samsung Introduces HDR10+ Advanced to Prime Video With Enhanced Features

Samsung has formally announced that it will bring the HDR10+ Advanced picture standard to Amazon’s Prime Video. This development aims to provide users of compatible televisions with improved control over aspects such as brightness, dark scenes, and motion settings. The rollout of this technology is set to commence in August 2026, although it will initially be limited to Samsung’s 2026 television models along with select Prime Video content that supports the feature.

According to the announcement, Prime Video will be the first streaming platform to implement HDR10+ Advanced. This new standard builds on the existing HDR10+, which is already employed to enhance the contrast and colours of supported films and television shows. Samsung claims that HDR10+ Advanced offers improved brightness control along with scene-by-scene motion processing.

At this stage, the list of titles that will be compatible with HDR10+ Advanced has yet to be disclosed. Both Samsung and Prime Video have not provided specific details regarding the range of available content at launch. Samsung has indicated that future products will adopt HDR10+ Advanced as the ecosystem develops.

Technical Advancements in HDR10+ Advanced

The HDR10+ Advanced technology allows televisions to display a broader spectrum of brightness levels, from dark shades to vibrant highlights while maintaining detail. The existing HDR10+ relies on dynamic metadata, which informs the television on how to render each scene effectively. HDR10+ Advanced elevates this concept by introducing more detailed information about content, enabling compatible TVs to fine-tune picture quality based on on-screen activities.

This feature utilises supplementary metadata to enable televisions to optimise their brightness capabilities more effectively. Additionally, the introduction of AI-based tone mapping is noteworthy. This feature allows televisions to intelligently decide how colours and brightness should be portrayed in different areas of a scene instead of applying uniform adjustments across the entire image frame. Intelligent Motion Smoothing Feature

Samsung’s HDR10+ Advanced also brings forth Intelligent Motion Smoothing, a function designed to render fast-moving objects more smoothly through advanced frame processing. This feature enhances the viewing of action sequences or dynamic content, contributing to a more immersive viewing experience.

Despite these advancements, users should be aware of the limitations regarding the initial availability of HDR10+ Advanced. At launch, the feature will exclusively work on Samsung’s 2026 model televisions and only support selected titles on Prime Video that are compatible with the new standard.
