Kangra Court Sentences Man to Three Years in POCSO Case

A Fast Track Special Court in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, has imposed a three-year sentence on a man following his conviction under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The judgement was delivered by the Additional District and Sessions Judge at the Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) in Dharamshala on July 30. The convicted individual, Ajay Kumar, is a resident of Barota village.

Details of the Sentencing

The court has ordered that Ajay Kumar will serve rigorous imprisonment for three years and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 for the offences committed under Section 08 of the POCSO Act. Should he fail to pay the fine, he will face an additional month of simple imprisonment. Furthermore, the court mandated that he undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and also pay an additional fine of Rs 5,000 related to Section 333 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In the event of non-payment of this fine, he will face another month of simple imprisonment.

Section 333 of the BNS deals with house trespass that is conducted with prior preparation to inflict bodily harm, assault, or unlawfully restrain a person, or instil fear of such actions. The charges against Kumar were taken seriously, reflecting the court’s commitment to upholding the law in cases of this nature.

The case leading to this conviction began with an FIR lodged on July 17, 2025, at the Indora police station, located within the Nurpur Police District. The police registered the complaint under Sections 333, 74, and 75 of the BNS, alongside Section 08 of the POCSO Act.
