If you’re planning to welcome New Year 2026 with late-night celebrations in Mumbai, getting home won’t be a worry this time. Keeping passenger safety and convenience in mind, Central Railway and Western Railway have announced special overnight local train services for the night of December 31, 2025, and early hours of January 1, 2026.

Central Railway Announces Midnight Special Locals

Central Railway will operate four special suburban local trains during midnight hours to ensure uninterrupted connectivity. These services will run on both the Main Line and Harbour Line, catering to partygoers, night-shift employees, and late-night commuters.

On the Main Line, one special local will depart from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) at 1:30 AM, reaching Kalyan by 3:00 AM. Another train will run in the reverse direction, departing Kalyan at 1:30 AM and arriving at CSMT at 3:00 AM.

Similarly, on the Harbour Line, special locals will operate between CSMT and Panvel, departing at 1:30 AM and reaching their destinations by 2:50 AM. All these trains will halt at every station en route, ensuring maximum accessibility.

Western Railway Adds Extra Services on Churchgate–Virar Route

Western Railway has also stepped up preparations for the New Year rush. It will run four additional pairs of special local trains between Churchgate and Virar during late-night and early-morning hours.

These services aim to ease congestion and provide a smooth commute for those returning home after New Year parties or work commitments. Officials stated that the decision was taken to manage the expected heavy New Year Eve crowd and maintain passenger safety.

Railway Issues Safety Advisory for Passengers

Railway authorities have advised passengers to check train timings in advance and follow safety norms while traveling late at night. Travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary crowding, cooperate with railway staff, and remain alert during their journey.
