The Tamil Nadu Police have arrested six individuals, including a 17-year-old juvenile, in relation to the fatal assault of a 20-year-old student in Coimbatore. The victim, identified as Amuthan, was a third-year student at a private engineering college situated near Premier Mill on Coimbatore-Pollachi Road. Police officials reported that the incident occurred when Amuthan was allegedly ambushed by a group of over 10 college students while travelling with a friend two nights prior.

During the assault, Amuthan’s friend managed to evade the situation, but Amuthan suffered critical injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital by his friend and another individual, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route to medical assistance. Following the incident, the Chettipalayam police arrived at the scene, recovered Amuthan’s body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination at the ESI Hospital located in Singanallur.

Investigation and Arrests

Initial police investigations revealed that the motive behind the attack was allegedly linked to suspicions regarding the theft of a mobile phone belonging to an individual named Ilavarasan. In the course of their inquiries, police detained six suspects, namely Aramuthan, Aravind, Sivarohith, Manibalu, and the juvenile, for questioning. Following this, all six were formally arrested by law enforcement authorities.

Amuthan’s parents have voiced their concerns, claiming that the college administration bears responsibility for their son’s death. They have urged authorities to consider the role of the institution in this tragic incident. The police continue their investigation to establish the precise circumstances and motive surrounding the attack on Amuthan.

Authorities have been gathering evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses. There is an indication that the police are looking into the possibility of other suspects being involved in the assault, as the number of individuals allegedly present during the attack was significant.

Separate Incident in Thoothukudi District

In an unrelated incident, two individuals lost their lives in a head-on motorcycle collision near Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district on June 8. According to police reports, the accident took place on the Kovilpatti-Ettayapuram road, specifically near a private petrol station under the jurisdiction of Nalattinpudur police station. The deceased have been identified as Arunpandian, aged 23, and Subburaj, aged 26.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the two motorcycles collided severely as they approached the petrol bunk. The impact was reportedly grave, inflicting serious head injuries on both riders. Tragically, both Arunpandian and Subburaj were declared dead at the scene as a result of the collision.

This accident has raised concerns regarding road safety in the area. The police are currently working on reconstructing the events leading up to the crash to determine if any traffic violations contributed to the deadly incident. Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
