National Anti-Terrorism Front Protests at United Nations Over PoJK Human Rights Issues

The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Anti-Terrorism Front India held a significant protest outside the United Nations office in Jammu, to draw attention to alleged human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). This demonstration was marked by a strong demand for immediate global intervention to address what the protesters termed an escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.

Protesters highlighted the ongoing suppression of citizens and a reported increase in violence against the local populace. The issues raised during the protest underscored the urgent need for international stakeholders to engage with the situation in PoJK, where many claim that systematic rights abuses have become prevalent.

Criticism of the United Nations’ Inaction

During the protest, Vishal Chopra, the Chairman of the National Anti-Terrorism Front India, publicly condemned the United Nations for its perceived inaction regarding the human rights situation in PoJK. He expressed disappointment that the international body has not addressed the plight of individuals facing persecution along the Line of Control.

Chopra stated, “We have come to protest outside the United Nations today for the sake of Bharat Mata. Issues concerning our brothers and sisters in PoK are being ignored; no one is speaking up, and the United Nations remains asleep.” His comments emphasised a belief that the UN should take a more active role in addressing these serious concerns.

He also remarked that the suffering in the area crosses religious boundaries, affecting Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians alike. The National Anti-Terrorism Front India conveyed its message that the international community must awake to these urgent issues and advocate for the populations experiencing oppression.

Formal Memorandum Submitted to the UN

At the conclusion of the protest, representatives of the organisation presented a formal memorandum to the United Nations, declaring that PoJK is an inseparable part of India. The memorandum urged the global organisation to take necessary actions to ensure the protection of the local population amid rising tensions.

This public expression of discontent in New Delhi coincides with growing international scrutiny of Islamabad’s treatment of dissenters. Notably, the watchdog group Amnesty International has been vocal in condemning the heavy-handed tactics implemented by the Pakistani authorities, particularly in the lead-up to regional elections in PoJK.

Amnesty International has accused the Pakistani government of resorting to violent measures to quash peaceful political dissent. This includes the unlawful designation of the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) as a “proscribed organisation,” which has drawn criticism for being an infringement on fundamental freedoms.

Furthermore, the group has characterised the ban on JKJAAC as a disproportionate attack on the rights to freedom of association and peaceful political activism. As tensions rise in the lead-up to the elections, activists, and human rights advocates continue to call upon the international community to hold the Pakistani government accountable for its actions.
