The Vande Bharatam initiative, introduced by Gautam Adani, aims to discover and nurture innovators and entrepreneurs from smaller towns and communities across India. The programme has garnered more than 26,000 applications from over 800 districts nationwide, encompassing all 36 States and Union Territories. This widespread participation underscores the initiative’s role in uncovering India’s untapped entrepreneurial potential.
Selected innovators have been provided with essential support, including mentorship, access to the industry, and opportunities to network and showcase their ventures. The Grand Finale, scheduled for August 14 in Ahmedabad, will allow these finalists to present their innovative ideas on a prominent national stage.
The initiative is intended to act as a continuous engagement platform, connecting participants not only with mentors and investors but also with industry leaders and like-minded innovators aimed at furthering their entrepreneurial journey.
Significance of Emergent Entrepreneurial Talent
The extensive participation in Vande Bharatam highlights an expanding pool of entrepreneurial talent emerging from regions beyond India’s major startup ecosystems. The initiative aims to broaden access to opportunities and support the forthcoming generation of innovators within the country. Vijay Kedia, Founder and Director of Kedia Advisory, described the initiative as vital for aspiring entrepreneurs, asserting that many have the talent but require the right opportunities and guidance to succeed.
Experts have noted that this platform could catalyse a significant transformation in India’s startup landscape, building on the number of unicorns already present and potentially leading to thousands more in the coming years. Ashutosh Valani, Co-founder of RENEE Cosmetics, emphasised the opportunities available through this initiative for startup founders, asserting that the right resources and guidance foster future success.
In addition, Aarti Gill, Co-Founder of Oziva, praised the diversity of innovations showcased in the initiative, highlighting the need for similar platforms to promote grassroots entrepreneurship in India. The call for more such initiatives reflects a consensus among industry leaders on the importance of encouraging innovation across different segments of the population.
