The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has declared plans to initiate a new protest campaign, referred to as “Season 2 of Jantar Mantar”. This announcement was made by the party’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke, stating that the movement would commence shortly. The timing of this declaration follows the unexpected cancellation of a meeting intended for CJP volunteers in Delhi’s Naraina, which Dipke alleges was influenced by pressure from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In his statement during a public meeting, Dipke recounted the numerous inquiries they have received via social media regarding the start date for the second phase of the Jantar Mantar protests. He addressed these requests, affirming that preparations are underway and that the new season will commence soon.

Allegations of Venue Pressure

He elaborated on the specific threats directed towards the venue that eventually hosted the event, claiming that its owners received stern warnings on the morning of the scheduled meeting. These threats allegedly included dire consequences should they allow the CJP gathering to proceed. Dipke expressed concern that such intimidation tactics are indicative of wider attempts to stifle the party’s activities.

CJP’s Stand Against Intimidation

In response to the alleged pressure from the BJP, Dipke expressed that such tactics would not hinder the CJP’s pursuit of their objectives. He accused the BJP of acting out of fear towards the youth of the nation, asserting that intimidation would not deter their resolve. He stated unequivocally that threats would not dissuade the party from continuing its activities.

Reports indicate that the BJP has yet to respond publicly to these allegations made by the CJP. The party founder’s comments have underscored a growing tension between the two factions, with the dissenting party vocalising concerns over perceived governmental overreach.

Additionally, Saurav Das, the CJP’s chief spokesperson, has indicated that the party’s mobilisation efforts are expanding. Das mentioned plans for a national ‘listening tour’ aimed at engaging with the public and gathering feedback on a range of issues, prioritising educational concerns as they prepare to launch this campaign starting from Independence Day.

Previous Jantar Mantar Protests

The CJP previously conducted a significant 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, which centred around concerns related to the NEET paper leak. This protest garnered widespread attention, attracting students, young volunteers, and political opposition figures. Notable activist Sonam Wangchuk also participated, undertaking an indefinite hunger strike that necessitated hospitalisation due to health complications.

The earlier demonstration witnessed various forms of action from law enforcement, particularly on July 20, when protesters attempted to march towards Parliament. The protest concluded on July 25, following negotiations with government representatives who provided assurances to meet key demands raised by the activists. Amidst these developments, the CJP has announced a national team, appointing Dipke as its national convener and outlining a strategy for strengthening the organisation’s structure moving forward.
