Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has voiced strong disapproval of the Congress protest that took place outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on July 21, 2026. Pradhan accused the party, led by Rahul Gandhi, of exploiting students as political instruments during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. In a statement on social media platform X, he described the protest as a strategy to create public disruption.

According to Pradhan, the Congress party’s tactical decision to hold a dharna resulted in considerable inconvenience for the public and violated established security protocols. He expressed that the protest was less about student issues and more about gaining political attention. Pradhan stated, “Their objective was never solutions for students; it was disruption for political headlines.”

He further claimed that despite the government’s willingness to engage in a thorough discussion about the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Congress preferred to focus on creating a spectacle rather than fostering democratic dialogue. Pradhan added that for Rahul Gandhi, the issue transcended the concerns of students and aimed at creating confrontation.

Government’s Commitment to Students

In his remarks, Pradhan emphasised the government’s dedication to addressing the genuine concerns of the youth regarding NEET. He asserted that the students of India deserve effective solutions instead of being used as mere props in political campaigns. He stated, “We owe our students more than outrage. We owe them answers, reforms and accountability.”

The Education Minister’s statements highlight a commitment to ensuring that students receive the attention their issues warrant. He reiterated that the government’s approach remains focused on providing clarity and dependable solutions amid what he labelled as chaotic political manoeuvres.

Opposition Leaders Detained During Protest

In related news, several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were detained by Delhi Police during the protest for reportedly breaching public order. They were advocating for accountability regarding the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and demanding action against the police response to student protests.

The leaders had organised a march from Rajaji Marg to the Prime Minister’s residence, aiming to raise awareness about the alleged paper leak and to call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Following their protest, some detained leaders were taken to Mandir Marg Police Station, while others, including Rahul Gandhi, were transported to Chhatrasal Stadium.
