Jemimah Rodrigues Aims for Success in Inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy

The CSR Journal Magazine

Jemimah Rodrigues, having already achieved significant success in women’s cricket, is determined to excel further. The Indian batter played a crucial role in India’s ODI World Cup victory last year and is now focused on the upcoming Women’s Champions Trophy. This inaugural tournament is scheduled to take place from February 14 to 28, 2027.

India secured their first Women’s ODI World Cup title in November 2025, triumphing over South Africa with a 52-run lead in the final held in Navi Mumbai. Rodrigues distinguished herself during this campaign, particularly with a remarkable unbeaten score of 127 runs in the semi-final against Australia.

Reflecting on the team’s recent successes, Rodrigues emphasised that they are eager for more victories. She stated, “We’ve tasted success once, and we know what it feels like to be at the top. The more you taste it, the more you want to be there.” Her comments were made during an interview for JioHotstar’s ‘Follow the Blues’.

World Cup Success and Future Challenges

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made adjustments to the schedule for the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, moving it from its original June-July timeframe to mid-February 2027. The tournament will take place in Sri Lanka and feature matches in the T20 format, presenting India with another chance to compete for an ICC title following their World Cup achievement.

Prior to fully focusing on this new challenge, Rodrigues has encountered an unexpected hurdle. She has been sidelined from the remainder of The Hundred tournament due to a hamstring injury sustained while playing for Southern Brave. This injury not only limits her participation in this tournament but also raises concerns about her availability for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.

Rodrigues had shown excellent form in The Hundred, accumulating 143 runs over six innings, with an impressive average of 35.75 and a strike rate of 131.19. Following her injury, Southern Brave signed Australia’s Charli Knott as her replacement, further complicating her return to competitive cricket.

Injury May Impact Upcoming Tournament Participation

The injury also casts doubt on Rodrigues’ participation in the imminent Women’s T20 Asia Cup, set to begin on August 28, with India scheduled to play against Thailand on August 30. With the clock ticking, her recovery time is limited, placing pressure on her to regain full fitness rapidly.

Rodrigues’ commitment to her performance remains unwavering, despite these setbacks. Her previous achievements provide her with a strong foundation, and she remains focused on her goal of contributing positively to the Indian team’s aspirations in the forthcoming Champions Trophy.

As the team prepares for these significant tournaments ahead, the focus lies equally on individual and collective performances, with players like Rodrigues keen to build on past successes and strive for new milestones in international women’s cricket.
