On August 11, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to present the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, along with the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, for discussion and approval in the Lok Sabha. This legislative action follows the introduction of these bills in the House the previous day amidst significant disruptions.

Shah will advocate for the consideration of the bill proposing to change the name of Kerala and will also request its passage. The NCDC Amendment Bill aims to modify provisions of the National Co-operative Development Corporation Act, 1962, enhancing the legislative framework governing cooperatives in India.

Details of Legislative Discussion

The legislative session will commence at 11 am with a Question Hour, during which members will have the opportunity to query government officials on various issues. Following this, several Union Ministers are expected to lay important papers concerning their respective ministries on the table of the House.

Ministers scheduled to contribute include Jitin Prasada, who represents the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Ramdas Athawale, focused on Social Justice and Empowerment. Other notable ministers participating include Ram Nath Thakur, Nityanand Rai, and Bhagirath Choudhary, who are associated with agriculture, home affairs, and rural development, respectively.

Additionally, the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha will convey two messages from the Rajya Sabha regarding the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026, and the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026. These messages will also be considered as part of the day’s business.

Reports from Parliamentary Committees

Amid the legislative activities, a range of reports from various Parliamentary Standing Committees will also be presented. The Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs will unveil its Twelfth Report, detailing actions taken by the government in response to previous recommendations associated with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Furthermore, the Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj is set to present several reports. These include assessments of government responses to recommendations tied to the Department of Rural Development and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, as well as findings on rural migration and skills development schemes like the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana.

The committee will also provide insights into the implementation of the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme. In connection with this, various ministers will deliver statements outlining the current status of implementing the recommendations from different Standing Committees.

Ministerial Statements on Implementation

During the session, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, SP Singh Baghel, will speak on the government’s progress regarding the Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s recommendations. Similarly, Kamlesh Paswan, Minister of State for Rural Development, will address updates concerning rural development initiatives.

Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma, Minister of State for Heavy Industries, is also expected to share information about the advancement of recommendations linked to the Ministry of Heavy Industries, as specified by the Standing Committee on Industry.

The House will also address issues under Rule 377 before moving forward with the legislative agenda. This structured approach aims to ensure that all pertinent matters are efficiently discussed and resolved within the parliamentary framework.
