A four-year-old girl was severely injured after being attacked by a group of seven stray dogs in the Chikhli area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune district, on August 6. This distressing event was captured on surveillance cameras. According to local authorities, the girl had stepped out of her home to gather leaves from a tree when the attack occurred.

The girl’s father, Girdhar Mishra, reported that the assault resulted in considerable injuries, necessitating more than 80 stitches on her head. Additional wounds were also sustained on her arms and thighs due to the mauling by the dogs.

The CCTV footage reveals the chaotic moment the dogs surrounded the child, who attempted to flee. Two of the dogs knocked her down, prompting the other animals to join in the attack.

Response and Rescue Efforts

Upon hearing the child’s cries, local residents quickly intervened. They managed to drive the dogs away and successfully rescued the girl from the situation. The swift action of the bystanders was crucial in preventing further harm to the child.

Following the incident, the girl’s father voiced his concerns about the rising issue of stray dogs in their area. He has called on local authorities to take necessary measures to address this problem and prevent future attacks.

Reports indicate that the dangers posed by stray dogs have been a growing concern in the community. The father emphasised the urgent need for effective solutions to ensure the safety of children and residents alike.

Previous Incidents of Concern

This is not the first incident involving children in the area. Just days before the dog attack, a five-year-old girl had to be hospitalised after allegedly being struck by a car while playing within a housing society in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Sector 12. This incident occurred on August 7 at around 10 pm, highlighting ongoing safety issues in public and residential spaces.

CCTV footage from the housing society captured the moment the four-wheeler collided with the girl. Following the incident, she was promptly taken to a private hospital where she is currently receiving medical treatment, and her condition has been reported as stable.

The authorities have registered a case against the driver involved in the accident at the MIDC Bhosari Police Station. Charges include Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
