US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Kolkata for his inaugural official visit to India, highlighting the commitment to enhance bilateral relations between the United States and India. This visit is set against the backdrop of increasing strategic alignment between the two nations, especially in areas like trade, defence, technology, and energy security.
Upon his arrival on May 23, Rubio was welcomed by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. The announcement of his arrival was made via a post on X, where Gor noted the upcoming meetings with Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The discussions are expected to focus on key topics such as trade dynamics, technological collaborations, and defence partnerships.
Honored to welcome my friend @SecRubio to India! We have an ambitious agenda ahead, including the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting, focused on advancing @POTUS‘ vision for an even stronger U.S.-India partnership. Looking forward to great conversations and making real progress… pic.twitter.com/NpCQRVeUIm
