Union Minister of State Sanjay Seth has made serious allegations against the Jharkhand government, claiming involvement in a recruitment scam worth Rs 400 crore. During a press conference, Seth accused the state administration of employing oppressive methods to deter student protests linked to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations. He labelled the government’s actions as “repressive”, asserting that they obstructed calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry.

According to Seth, a recent incident in Ranchi highlighted the government’s tactics against students demanding justice. He reported that at approximately 1 a.m., the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police allegedly attempted to intimidate students engaged in protests, claiming that power was cut off shortly thereafter. This action was followed by police intervention when students made arrangements to restore electricity with their own funds, which the authorities reportedly dismantled.

Seth elaborated on the alleged financial misconduct within the state’s recruitment system, suggesting deep-rooted corruption that highlights significant discrepancies in the hiring process. He described the systemic problems as indicative of a broader scheme, claiming that the total financial loss attributable to the scam is around Rs 400 crore. Seth connected the irregularities to the involvement of the Technical Development Private Limited (TDPL), raising questions about those who allegedly benefited from the situation.

Asserting that the situation demands urgent attention, Seth stated, “The entire scam that happened is a scam of nearly 400 crore rupees. Whether it’s JPSC or JSSC, this 400 crore scam happened on the part of TDPL.” His comments reflect rising frustrations among students who seek transparency and accountability in the recruitment processes.

In response to the allegations, the Minister pointed towards a hesitant stance from the Hemant Soren-led coalition government regarding a CBI investigation, asserting that it is potentially shielding certain political figures from scrutiny. Seth remarked that the reluctance to initiate an investigation may stem from fears that prominent leaders linked to the Chief Minister could face legal consequences.

The statements made by Sanjay Seth come in the wake of escalating student protests across Ranchi, where numerous aspirants for JPSC and JSSC positions have been voicing their grievances.
