Two Arrested After Man Stabbed Over Seat Dispute on Mumbai Train

A man was reportedly attacked and stabbed following an argument regarding a seat on a Mumbai local train. This incident occurred on the morning of June 12, 2026, on a train travelling from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Khopoli, as confirmed by authorities. The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Karjat stated the altercation began shortly after the train had passed the Vangani railway station.

The victim, identified as Satish Kumar Bolamani Pathak, who is 26 years old and resides in Masjid Bunder, Mumbai, suffered serious injuries in the attack. Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation escalated from a verbal disagreement to physical violence between Pathak and a group of young men who were allegedly disputing the use of an available seat in the luggage compartment.

Details of the Attack

According to the official report, the argument intensified rapidly, resulting in a brawl. During this altercation, the accused individuals assaulted Pathak viciously, with one of them allegedly using a knife to stab him in the stomach. The severity of Pathak’s injuries prompted immediate medical attention, and he is currently receiving treatment for his wounds.

The altercation is said to have taken place under significant public observation, as many commuters were present in the compartment at the time. The rapid escalation of the conflict has raised concerns about safety on local trains, which have been bustling with passengers during peak hours.

Police Response and Arrests

In response to the incident, the GRP acted swiftly, reportedly arresting two suspects within 12 hours of the attack. The arrested individuals have been identified as Imran Idris Ansari, aged 18, from Neral, and Karan Kanhaiyalal Agrawal, aged 22, from Shelu. The police have expressed their commitment to ensuring justice is served promptly.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities pursuing leads to apprehend one additional suspect linked to the assault. The GRP of Karjat is conducting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to gather more witness statements and evidence that could aid in clarifying the events.
