Twisha Sharma Family Seeks Second Autopsy After Hanging Confirmed in Postmortem Report

The CSR Journal Magazine

The autopsy report of 31-year-old Twisha Sharma has raised further questions surrounding her death, which occurred at her marital home in Bhopal earlier this month. The report has identified two distinct marks on her neck, which have been attributed to pressure from hanging material. Each mark is reported to be approximately 2 cm wide and has been described as reddish abrasions running in a parallel direction on both sides of her neck, above the thyroid region.

Medical professionals who reviewed the findings noted signs of congestion and blood infiltration within the neck tissues. The report concludes that the cause of death was “asphyxia as a result of ante-mortem hanging,” suggesting she was alive at the time of the hanging incident. This conclusion has intensified scrutiny from Sharma’s family, who have voiced concerns regarding the investigation process.

Given the evidence presented in the report, Twisha’s family is advocating for a second post-mortem examination to be conducted at AIIMS in Delhi. They allege that the existing investigation is riddled with inconsistencies and that key evidence may have been disregarded or suppressed.

Police Response to Investigations

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar has stated that the investigation is centring on the premise of suicide. He has emphasised that the police are not experiencing any undue external pressure. Kumar explained that the post-mortem conclusively supports the theory of suicide, and the police are diligently investigating the conditions surrounding her tragic decision.

The Commissioner also dismissed allegations concerning delays in police response, indicating that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered within two days, well within the prescribed time limits for such cases. He addressed concerns regarding the ligature material and confirmed it has been secured by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and subsequently sent to AIIMS post-autopsy. The findings in relation to the ligature have reportedly aligned with the autopsy results.

Kumar has reiterated that there would be no objections from the police regarding a second autopsy if it receives approval from the court. The police are keen on an open investigation and are following all leads related to the case.

Background and Family Allegations

Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, married advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025. Her death occurred on May 12 at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Following the discovery of her body, police instituted a case against Samarth Singh and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, under charges related to dowry death and harassment allegations.

Twisha’s family claims she was subjected to dowry harassment, physical abuse, and they have raised concerns about potential destruction of evidence. They have also pointed out that certain injury marks noted on her body do not appear to be fully represented in the autopsy report, deepening their concerns regarding the circumstances of her death.

Current police efforts are ongoing to locate Samarth Singh, who has yet to be apprehended. Commissioner Kumar acknowledged that the pace of catching suspects can vary, emphasising that smaller alleged offenders might take longer to pursue. He assured that police teams are working diligently to secure his arrest and noted that the investigation is being handled by a Special Investigation Team.
