The recently elected Member of the Legislative Assembly for Manjalpur, Satish Patel, officially took his oath on August 11, 2026. The ceremony took place in Gandhinagar, where Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary administered the oath of office. Attending the ceremony was Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with other distinguished guests, including the Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly, Balkrishna Shukla, and Minister for Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs, Rushikesh Patel. State Government Responds to Suicide Incident at Hospital

In related news, following a tragic incident involving the suicide of a resident doctor at Surat New Civil Hospital, the Gujarat State Government has initiated immediate action. Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya has expressed serious concern over the matter and has ordered a thorough investigation.

Per the directives from the Minister, a high-level committee has been established to conduct a comprehensive and transparent inquiry into the suicide case. This committee will be jointly led by the Dean and Superintendent of the Civil Hospital, aimed at ensuring accountability in the investigation process.

To maintain transparency in the inquiry, Sachde, the Additional Director of Medical Education from Gandhinagar, will oversee the proceedings directly. Health Minister Pansheriya has instructed that no individuals found responsible for any oversight or negligence related to this incident will evade accountability.

Investigation Focused on Allegations of Harassment

During the investigation, all aspects concerning the resident doctor’s situation will be scrutinised, particularly potential instances of ragging, mental harassment, or negligence from any authorities or peers. The Minister underscored the importance of uncovering the truth behind any environmental factors that may have contributed to the tragic incident.

To ensure a thorough exploration of the circumstances surrounding the case, it has been directed that statements from fellow students and resident doctors residing at the hostel will be collected promptly. This process aims to provide clarity on whether the deceased experienced any form of harassment while within the hospital or hostel setting.

The Chief Minister’s Office has confirmed that every detail will be eagerly examined to bring the truth to light, emphasising the state’s commitment to addressing such serious matters. The government aims to respond not just to this incident but to enhance safeguards for medical professionals in educational and hospital settings.
