CBI Seeks Voice Samples of Twisha Sharma’s Husband, Mother-in-Law

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially approached a court in Bhopal for consent to gather voice samples from Samarth Singh, the husband of the deceased model Twisha Sharma, and Giribala Singh, his mother. Both individuals are considered suspects in the investigation surrounding Twisha’s tragic death. The CBI has indicated that it is essential to obtain these samples to advance the inquiry.

During the latest hearing, the CBI requested an extension of the judicial custody for both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh, asserting that numerous segments of the investigation remain outstanding. The court presided over by Justice Aarti Aditya Bandil consequently extended their custody until July 14, indicating the ongoing nature of the proceedings.

Samarth Singh and his mother are currently being held in Bhopal Central Jail and appeared via video link during the court session. Twisha was discovered hanging at her home in Bhopal on May 12, prompting calls for a more thorough investigation after concerns were raised regarding the initial police handling of the case.

Ongoing Investigations and Evidence Collection

Ankur Pandey, representing Twisha’s family, conveyed to the Press Trust of India (PTI) that along with the request for voice samples, the CBI is also seeking access to the password for Samarth Singh’s confiscated laptop. This step is aimed at facilitating a comprehensive examination of the digital and technical evidence that may be pertinent to the case.

Pandey noted that the CBI has stated in court that significant aspects of the investigation are still pending completion. This includes vital reports from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, as well as findings from a subsequent post-mortem and a viscera examination. The ongoing wait for these reports has created delays in progressing further with the investigation.

Previously, on June 16, both accused were remanded to a 14-day judicial custody that was set to expire on June 30. With the investigations still in an incomplete state, the CBI’s request for extension was deemed necessary by the court.

Legal Proceedings and Related Issues

During the hearing, Giribala Singh’s legal representatives raised concerns about a recent theft that occurred at her residence. The lawyers petitioned for her to be permitted to return home under police protection to identify stolen items. However, the CBI contested this motion, arguing that the theft and Twisha’s case are unrelated matters and should not be considered together in the current judicial proceedings.

Although the court did not issue any definitive ruling on this matter, it mentioned that Giribala Singh could formally submit an application if she desired to return to her home for identification purposes. Meanwhile, Anurag Srivastava, another attorney for Twisha’s family, reported that the CBI has yet to receive the second post-mortem findings, which are reportedly being prepared by AIIMS in Delhi.

The delay in receiving this systematic report is said to be affecting the timeline of the investigation. Once the second post-mortem report is available, the next steps in the inquiry will be undertaken. With judicial custody now extended until July 14, the CBI awaits further essential forensic and medical reports to aid in its ongoing investigation.
