The court in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has extended the judicial custody of Giribala Singh, a former district judge, and her son Samarth Singh until August 11 in relation to the ongoing investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma. This decision was made on July 28 following a request from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which stated that further questioning of witnesses was necessary.

Both Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh will continue to remain in detention as the investigation progresses. Their initial period of custody was first extended on July 14, allowing an additional 14 days until July 28, as the CBI sought more time to examine critical evidence and testimonies related to the case.

Details of Twisha Sharma’s Case

Twisha Sharma was discovered deceased on the night of May 12 in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Her in-laws have claimed that she took her own life; however, her maternal relatives have alleged that she was murdered. This conflicting narrative has intensified the scrutiny surrounding the circumstances of her death.

On July 12, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) medical board, which was tasked with performing a second postmortem under court orders, submitted its final forensic report to the CBI in a sealed cover. This report was crucial in resolving a significant forensic disagreement concerning the ligature material purportedly used in the incident, specifically a gymnastics belt with a metal ring.

The contentious issue revolved around whether the gymnastics belt was indeed the ligature involved in Twisha Sharma’s hanging and whether it corresponded with the injuries observed on her neck. The earlier autopsy had failed to reach a conclusion on this matter because the necessary ligature material had not been presented during the examination, prompting the intervention of the Madhya Pradesh High Court for a second postmortem.

Forensic Findings and Confidentiality

According to sources, laboratory and histopathological analyses confirmed the presence of skin tissue on the ligature material, thereby establishing a connection to the observed injury pattern. Despite these findings, the final opinion issued by the medical board remains confidential, submitted to the CBI in accordance with court directives.
