The CSR Journal Magazine

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday met PM Modi in New Delhi and sought the Centre’s intervention on several key infrastructure and development projects, including facilitating talks with Maharashtra over the utilisation of Godavari river waters.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister submitted a memorandum highlighting pending issues and requested immediate approvals and clearances for projects considered vital to Telangana’s future growth.

Revanth Reddy emphasised that effective utilisation of Godavari waters is crucial for meeting the state’s long-term irrigation and drinking water requirements. He urged the Prime Minister to help initiate a dialogue between the governments of Telangana and Maharashtra to address the matter.

Push For Hyderabad Metro Expansion And Regional Ring Road

The Chief Minister also sought approval for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 project, which envisages expansion over 122.9 kilometres across seven corridors at an estimated cost of Rs 38,595 crore.

He requested that the project be implemented as a joint venture between the Centre and the state government.

Revanth Reddy further pressed for early approval of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road project. He informed the Prime Minister that Telangana had already agreed to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the northern section and had released Rs 626 crore to the National Highways Authority of India.

According to the Chief Minister, land acquisition for more than 90 per cent of the northern corridor has already been completed.

He stressed that construction of the southern section, extending from Choutuppal to Sangareddy, is equally important and would significantly improve connectivity around Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister urged the Centre to approve both sections and expedite their execution.

Bandar Port Expressway To Boost Exports

Revanth Reddy also highlighted the pending proposal for the Hyderabad-Amaravati-Bandar Port Expressway.

The proposed 12-lane highway, featuring a 120-metre right-of-way, would connect Hyderabad with Bandar Port through Amaravati and provide crucial port access to landlocked Telangana.

He said the corridor would serve as an important export route for sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics and food processing, thereby enhancing the state’s economic competitiveness.

Warangal Airport And IIM Hyderabad Among Key Requests

The Chief Minister also called for the commencement of work on the proposed Warangal airport.

He informed PM Modi that land acquisition had already been completed and the required land had been handed over to the Airports Authority of India.

According to Revanth Reddy, the airport would provide a major boost to the industrial, educational and tourism sectors in north Telangana.

In addition, he sought the establishment of an Indian Institute of Management in Hyderabad and offered 200 acres of land for the project.

He pointed out that Telangana already hosts premier institutions such as IIT, IIIT, NALSAR and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and said that an IIM would further strengthen the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020.

The meeting underscored Telangana’s push for faster infrastructure development and enhanced central support for projects aimed at strengthening connectivity, education and water security in the state.
