Russia Launches Massive Missile And Drone Attack On Kyiv, One Killed

The CSR Journal Magazine

Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone assault on Kyiv early Thursday, killing one person, injuring at least 11 others and causing damage across the Ukrainian capital, officials said.

The attack, involving ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones, struck all 10 districts of Kyiv on both sides of the Dnipro River, prompting residents to seek shelter in metro stations and other safe locations as air raid alerts sounded across the city.

Capital Hit By Hours-Long Assault

Ukrainian authorities said the bombardment lasted for several hours, with loud explosions reported across the capital.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other officials issued warnings as the attack unfolded, urging residents to move to shelters.

The latest strike comes amid a recent escalation in Russian attacks on Kyiv, even as Ukraine continues long-range drone operations targeting military installations and energy infrastructure inside Russia.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko described the assault as a “furious enemy attack” and urged residents to remain in shelters until the threat had passed.

Residential Buildings Damaged Across Multiple Districts

Authorities reported extensive damage to residential buildings and other structures in several parts of the city.

Klitschko said five people were injured in the Shevchenkivskyi district, including a paramedic who was reported to be in extremely critical condition.

In the Desnianskyi district, emergency services responded after residents became trapped inside a damaged nine-storey residential building.

A fire also broke out on the roof of a multi-storey building in the Holosiivskyi district.

Fires And Structural Damage Reported

Additional fires were reported in residential areas of the Sviatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts, where debris from the attack trapped people inside buildings.

Tymur Tkachenko said a residential building in the Desnianskyi district had been partially destroyed.

He added that fires erupted near residential buildings at two locations in the Pecherskyi district and near an administrative building in the Solomianskyi district.

Damage was also recorded in the Obolonskyi and Podilskyi districts, according to city authorities.

Russia And Ukraine Continue Long-Range Strikes

The attack comes as both sides continue to expand the scope of long-range operations in the ongoing conflict.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified drone attacks against Russian military facilities and energy infrastructure, which officials say have contributed to fuel shortages and disruptions to supply lines in parts of Russia.

Moscow has responded with increasingly frequent missile and drone strikes targeting Ukrainian cities, including repeated attacks on Kyiv.

Thursday’s assault affected districts across the capital and left residents sheltering for hours as emergency crews worked to extinguish fires, rescue trapped civilians and assess the extent of the damage.

Ukrainian authorities are continuing rescue and recovery operations while assessing the full impact of the latest attack on the capital.
