Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has urged citizens to engage proactively in environmental conservation. During the 77th State-Level Van Mahotsav held in Manesar, he stressed that protecting nature ought to evolve into a widespread movement, deeply embedded in India’s cultural values. As the chief guest, Saini highlighted the significance of tree plantation as not just a government initiative, but a collective duty owed to future generations.

Addressing the attendees, he remarked that Van Mahotsav is more than a mere tree planting event; it embodies a commitment to recognise and fulfill humanity’s obligations to nature. He encouraged community members to translate their promise for environmental protection into a lasting value system that can fuel a larger movement.

Details of Van Mahotsav Initiatives

During his speech, the Chief Minister praised the contributions of the Forest Department and the public towards green initiatives in the state. He noted that historically, India has valued nature, making environmental conservation a vital element of the country’s longstanding cultural heritage. Citing recent actions, he mentioned that the first phase of this year’s Van Mahotsav was conducted in Karnal on July 30, with similar programmes scheduled across all 90 Haryana Assembly constituencies to foster broader public engagement.

Saini referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, indicating that the Haryana Government is transforming this campaign into a collective movement. He urged citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers. The Chief Minister emphasised the shared responsibility of maintaining greenery and ecological balance in the swiftly developing areas of Manesar and Gurugram.

He announced that the government would launch large-scale plantation efforts on Panchayat and public lands, along with plans to assist farmers in preserving rare and endangered tree species. This initiative aims to create a more sustainable environment for the future.

Achievements in Environmental Conservation

Saini highlighted various accomplishments in the state’s environmental preservation efforts, stating that Haryana planted 15.2 million saplings during the fiscal year 2025-26. Furthermore, he noted the establishment of 58 herbal parks aimed at the conservation and cultivation of medicinal plants, alongside plans for Panchvati plantations in each village to increase green cover and augment the natural environment.

To further assist in these efforts, 610 Van Mitras have been appointed to safeguard planted saplings and enhance forest cover across the state. The government has also expanded the Pran Vayu Devta Yojana to recognise and protect heritage trees, which possess ecological significance, thereby promoting a deeper respect for nature.

In his address, Saini stressed the importance of balancing infrastructural development with environmental protection. He asserted that true progress should not compromise the natural world, stating, “True development is one where roads are built alongside shade-giving trees.” His emphasis on this balance reflects a commitment to sustainable growth practices.

Moreover, Saini acknowledged international recognition for Sultanpur National Park and Bhindawas Wildlife Sanctuary as Ramsar sites, underlining their ecological importance. He appealed to all citizens to choose tree species that align with local climatic conditions, reinforcing the idea that Haryana’s green cover can only be sustained through collective action. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Haryana’s Environment, Forest and Wildlife Minister Rao Narbir Singh also contributed to discussions, reiterating the need for collaborative efforts in environmental conservation.
