Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate as the Chief Guest at the 57th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on 8 August at 11 AM. The event will celebrate the achievements of more than 3,000 graduating students, including 587 scholars who will receive their PhD degrees during the ceremony. This significant occasion highlights the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the students.

According to an announcement by the Prime Minister’s Office, the ceremony will also serve as a platform for recognising outstanding academic excellence. Prime Minister Modi is expected to present the Institute’s prestigious awards, which include the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and the Perfect Ten Gold Medals, to the most meritorious students. These accolades have great significance in promoting academic excellence at IIT Delhi.

The Prime Minister’s address is anticipated to inspire the graduates and pave the way for their future contributions to society and the national economy. The ceremony will not only mark a milestone for the students but also reflect the ongoing emphasis on education and innovation within India’s academic institutions.

Inauguration of AI Supercomputing Facility

During the event, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Param Pragya, an AI-driven high-performance supercomputing facility located at the Sonipat Campus of IIT Delhi. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant advancement in the field of artificial intelligence and is expected to enhance the institute’s capabilities in areas like data science, advanced computing, and interdisciplinary research.

The introduction of Param Pragya underscores the government’s commitment to promoting cutting-edge research in scientific fields, especially in artificial intelligence, which is increasingly becoming central to various sectors. National Handloom Day Celebrations

On the same day, Prime Minister Modi will observe National Handloom Day, paying tribute to India’s rich handloom heritage and its artisans. In his efforts to reinforce the government’s backing for weavers and artisans, he emphasised that the handloom sector is vital for rural empowerment and women-led development within the framework of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

In a recent post shared on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister acknowledged the skill, creativity, and commitment demonstrated by generations of artisans in preserving India’s traditional craftsmanship. He encouraged citizens to actively promote handloom products, emphasising the importance of sustaining this integral part of Indian culture.

To further foster engagement, PM Modi invited the public to share their favourite handloom pieces and participate in trending initiatives using the hashtag #NationalHandloomDay. This initiative aims to raise awareness and support communities connected to the traditional textile sector, thereby encouraging participation and enhancement of India’s cultural identity.
