Xiaomi Launches Mijia Brand in India to Expand Home Appliance Offerings

The CSR Journal Magazine

Xiaomi has announced the launch of its smart home and lifestyle brand, Mijia, in India. This initiative marks a significant expansion for the company, which is traditionally known for its smartphones and connected devices. The introduction of Mijia aligns with the completion of twelve years of Xiaomi’s presence in the Indian market and highlights the company’s commitment to diversifying its product offerings.

Mijia, which translates to “Mi Home,” will serve as Xiaomi India’s dedicated sub-brand for home and lifestyle products. This move positions Mijia alongside the company’s existing brands, including Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco, making it the fourth brand in its portfolio. The products under the Mijia by Xiaomi label will focus on creating a cohesive portfolio for consumers looking for connected home solutions.

The launch of this sub-brand aims to enhance Xiaomi’s long-term strategy to develop its smart home ecosystem in India. While the company has already established a firm foothold in various consumer electronics categories, it seeks to streamline its home devices under one brand identity.

Xiaomi’s Plans for Large Home Appliances

A key aspect of the Mijia launch is Xiaomi’s intention to enter the large home appliances market in India. Although the company has not yet detailed which specific appliances will be introduced or provided a timeline for their release, it has confirmed that all future home and lifestyle products, including larger items, will carry the Mijia by Xiaomi branding.

Xiaomi intends to complement its existing range of products, such as air purifiers, while also introducing a wider variety from its global smart home lineup to Indian consumers. The Mijia brand globally encompasses offerings in over two hundred categories, including smart kitchen appliances, robot vacuum cleaners, and various connected home devices.

This expansion into large appliances is seen as crucial for Xiaomi as it seeks to fulfil its vision of becoming a comprehensive provider of home technology solutions. The company aims to establish itself as a leader in the Indian market for connected devices, thereby enriching users’ smart living experiences.

Strategic Alignment with Human Car Home Initiative

The launch of Mijia is closely connected to Xiaomi’s Human Car Home strategy, which was unveiled globally in 2023. This initiative focuses on integrating personal devices, electric vehicles, and smart home products into a unified ecosystem through Xiaomi HyperOS, allowing these devices to function together harmoniously.

Sudhin Mathur, Chief Operating Officer of Xiaomi India, reiterated the company’s commitment to this initiative, stating that the introduction of Mijia by Xiaomi plays a pivotal role in developing its Home segment. Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of making the connected ecosystem more intelligent and user-friendly, ensuring that Xiaomi’s global smart living experience reaches a wider audience across India.
