Tanvi Sharma has continued her remarkable streak in international badminton by reaching the quarterfinals of the Korea Masters Super 300 tournament. The 17-year-old player from Punjab has proven her tactical skills and determination throughout the competition, maintaining her winning form.

Seeded third in the tournament, Tanvi commenced her journey with a commanding 21-16, 21-15 victory against Yuan Anqi of China. This match lasted 36 minutes, showcasing her ability to dominate opponents early on.

In the round of 16, she faced a challenging encounter with compatriot Shriyanshi Valishetty. After a gritty battle that extended over three games, Tanvi triumphed with scores of 21-16, 17-21, and 21-13, securing her position in the quarterfinal stage.

Entering the event unseeded, she delivered an exceptional performance throughout the week, culminating in a decisive 21-16, 21-16 victory over sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh from Vietnam in the final.

In this historic final, which lasted 36 minutes, Tanvi demonstrated her control over rallies with her trademark drop shots and sharp angles, making her the youngest finalist in the tournament’s history. This achievement is a notable milestone in her career.

Her victory in Taipei positioned her as only the fourth Indian woman, joining the ranks of Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, and Devika Sihag, to secure a title at a BWF Super 300 or higher event. Furthermore, she became the first Indian since Saina Nehwal in 2008 to win the Taipei Open women’s singles title, marking a significant achievement in the history of Indian badminton.

Despite her current success, Tanvi Sharma will not be participating in the upcoming World Championships set to commence on August 17. India will be represented in women’s singles by PV Sindhu and Unnati Hooda, leaving Tanvi to focus on her ongoing development and achievements in other tournaments.
