Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Innovation Lab at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Pitampura on Thursday. She emphasised the importance of hands-on, experiment-based learning as essential for preparing students for future challenges. Gupta stated that STEM education extends beyond being mere academic subjects; it provides a foundation for the future economy and nation-building.

Speaking at the event, she highlighted the need for students to engage in practical learning, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities rather than being confined to traditional textbook education. Gupta underscored her belief that innovation and scientific thinking should be integral to the modern education system, ultimately benefiting Delhi’s youth.

Commitment to Modern Educational Infrastructure

During her address, Gupta affirmed the Delhi government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure in all government schools. She noted that the initiative aims to integrate digital technology and innovation-driven resources, ensuring that students are adequately prepared to tackle future challenges. The establishment of the lab is seen as a step towards equipping students with the necessary tools to develop a scientific outlook.

Gupta stated that the laboratory would serve as a platform for students to explore new ideas and develop solutions to real-life issues. She expressed confidence that quality education, enabled by technology, would be pivotal in realising the aspirations of Viksit Bharat 2047, an initiative aimed at transforming India into a developed nation.

Highlighting the importance of access to modern resources, the Chief Minister remarked that today’s students would evolve into the scientists, engineers, and innovators of tomorrow. She asserted that the government is committed to ensuring equal opportunities for every child to access quality education.

Collaboration Between Government and Private Sector

Shikhar Dhawan, cricketer and chairman of Da One Group, along with representatives from HMD India, senior officials from the Education Department, and teachers and students, attended the inauguration. Gupta noted that collaborations between the government and the private sector could serve as a catalyst for positive transformations in education, enabling the expansion of access to modern learning resources in government schools.

She expressed hope that such partnerships would further strengthen the educational framework in Delhi. The importance of integrating modern, innovation-driven education, with an emphasis on practical learning, has been a focal point of the government’s strategy.

Gupta reiterated that the new STEM lab is a testament to the government’s dedication to modernising educational practices. She remarked that the focus on providing students with widespread access to innovative resources will play a significant role in preparing them for future opportunities and challenges.
