Students in Jharkhand are escalating their demonstrations against irregularities allegedly tied to the JPSC and JSSC CGL recruitment examinations, continuing a hunger strike that has now entered its third day. In anticipation of a planned gherao of the state Assembly on August 10, the students are demanding the government address their grievances regarding the recruitment processes. Rahul Kranti, a representative of the protesting students, articulated their disappointment at the government’s lack of response and the Chief Minister’s absence from the protests.

Kranti expressed a need for dialogue, stating that the protesters remain open to talks, but reiterated that the government seems unresponsive. Despite the students’ efforts to engage, the Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, has reportedly not visited the site to show concern for the health of the hunger strikers.

As the fast continues, students are reporting deteriorating health. Kranti mentioned that their physical condition is worsening daily, raising concerns about their safety as they prepare for the upcoming action at the Assembly.

Demands for Resignation and Investigations

A student protester, whose health has been affected by the hunger strike, asserted that Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s inaction towards the irregularities in the examinations necessitates his resignation. The protester is struggling with dizziness, indicating the toll the strike is taking on participants. He labelled the Chief Minister as unfit for office, underscoring a general sentiment that the government has not appropriately addressed their concerns.

The students also dismissed rumors suggesting that fellow protester Devendra Nath Mahato had ended his hunger strike. Assertions by students about the supposed actions of Mahato have been clarified, maintaining that he has not abandoned the cause. The protesters are firm in their intent to keep the momentum until their demands are met, including a call for the Chief Minister’s resignation.

Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore addressed the ongoing situation, categorising the issues with the JPSC examinations as resulting from improper appointment processes rather than a paper leak. He apportioned blame to the agency responsible for conducting recruitment and maintained that the government is committed to addressing any misconduct associated with the examination systems.

Future Actions and Ongoing Agitation

In light of unresolved demands regarding the JPSC and JSSC CGL examinations, several student groups have announced plans for a “Vidhan Sabha Gherao” set for August 10. A protester named Radhe Kumar highlighted that discussions with government officials have occurred, but their core demands remain unmet. Without satisfactory resolutions, the plan to physically surround the legislative assembly will proceed as scheduled.

The protesters are calling for the cancellation of the JPSC and JSSC CGL examinations conducted by TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). They believe that the integrity of the examination process is at risk and demand comprehensive structural reforms within the examination frameworks.

As these protests unfold, the situation reflects growing frustrations among the student population regarding alleged administrative failures. Vigilance from both students and the government will be necessary to mitigate further escalation and to address the critical issues identified by the protesting groups.
