The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans for a march to Islamabad on September 27 if justice is not afforded to its founding chairman, Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Suhail Afridi made this statement during a significant gathering organised by PTI as Khan approaches the three-year milestone in confinement.

Afridi outlined the party’s immediate demands, which include the scheduling of hearings for legal cases against Khan and his wife, as well as restoring access for their legal representatives, medical professionals, and family members. He asserted that justice could lead to Khan’s release “within 30 minutes” and emphasised that the party seeks justice rather than alms.

He confirmed that PTI intends to persist in its efforts through constitutional and democratic means, wherein peaceful protests will play a vital role. Afridi highlighted the outpouring of support from party members across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, suggesting that this demonstrates Khan’s sustained popularity among the masses.

Allegations Regarding Imran Khan’s Treatment

In his address, Afridi marked the three years since what he termed Khan’s “abduction” and alleged that the former prime minister has been held in solitary confinement during this time. He further claimed that Khan’s sisters faced mistreatment while attempting to visit him in prison, raising serious concerns about their treatment and conditions.

Afridi also discussed broader issues, alleging that the constitutional amendments, specifically the 26th and 27th, have undermined the judiciary’s capacity to administer justice independently. He reiterated PTI’s stance that Khan’s removal from office was the result of an “external conspiracy” aided by internal accomplices, following his refusal to compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Furthermore, Afridi asserted that Khan had made significant personal sacrifices for the country’s future, advocating for matters such as Islamophobia and Muslim rights on international platforms. He linked the regime change in April 2022 with a decline in economic conditions and a rise in terrorist activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that the province is now suffering from increased insecurity and violence.

Party’s Position on Current Government and Future Actions

Afridi accused the current administration of damaging Pakistan’s relationships with neighbouring nations, including Iran, Afghanistan, and China. He vehemently criticised the dominance of dynastic politics and made it clear that PTI will resist the imposition of hereditary leadership, advocating instead for democratic processes.

He remarked that the party has pursued all available legal and judicial channels without achieving justice, which he stated left PTI with no choice but to exercise its constitutional right to peaceful protest. Afridi urged party supporters to sustain their fight for democratic rights and confirmed that he would lead the march to Islamabad on September 27 unless the party’s demands are met.

In conclusion, Afridi’s remarks served to reinforce PTI’s ongoing demands regarding Khan’s legal issues and access to prison, while reiterating the party’s criticisms of the current government and judicial system. He cautioned that if no action is taken on these fronts, the planned march to Islamabad will proceed later this month.
