BJP MLAs staged a demonstration outside the Jharkhand Assembly on August 6, voicing their concerns regarding alleged irregularities associated with the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), and other competitive examinations. The party’s representatives asserted their support for students impacted by these issues, aiming to draw attention to purported corruption within state-run agencies.

Speaking to reporters, BJP MLA Alok Chaurasia reiterated the party’s position, stating, “The Bharatiya Janata Party stands firmly and vocally with the students regarding the functioning of Jharkhand government agencies,” highlighting ongoing issues in various examinations. The protest reflects broader frustrations over perceived misconduct in the examination process.

Chaurasia’s remarks suggest a deep concern regarding the integrity of state examinations, asserting a commitment to advocating for fair practices on behalf of students. The protest is part of a larger discourse about governance and the accountability of state agencies responsible for conducting such critical evaluations.

Responses from Political Figures

BJP MP Damodar Agarwal furthered the narrative by criticising opposition parties, suggesting that they have failed to adequately address students’ concerns in a consistent manner. He drew parallels to previous student movements, particularly regarding the NEET-UG paper leak, alleging a selective response from opposing political factions based on the governance of the states involved.

Agarwal characterised the situation as indicative of a broader double standard among opposition parties, claiming, “Students are the same in all different states,” thus implying that concerns should be addressed uniformly across different regions regardless of the party in power.

In addition, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) MLA Nirmal Mahto called for the imposition of President’s rule in the state. He expressed a belief that public confidence in the governing system has significantly eroded due to these ongoing issues. The call for President’s rule reflects a serious critique of the current government’s handling of educational matters.

Student Actions and Future Plans

Amidst the protests, student representatives announced plans for a “Vidhan Sabha Gherao” (surrounding the Assembly) scheduled for August 10 if their demands remain unaddressed. Protester Radhe Kumar indicated that this decision came after discussions with government officials regarding the grievances raised by the students.

Kumar emphasised that the demonstrators are calling for the cancellation of the JPSC and JSSC CGL examinations along with other recruitment tests conducted by TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). He stated that the planned Assembly gherao was a direct response to continued dissatisfaction with the government’s actions.

Beyond the immediate demand for cancellation of examinations, Kumar outlined a broader agenda, including a call for investigations by federal agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the alleged irregularities. Additionally, he advocated for sweeping structural reforms within the examination systems operated by JSSC, JPSC, and CGL.
