Jammu and Kashmir Government Approves ₹72 Crore for Sanitation Projects

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the approval of sanitation projects valued at ₹72 crore, aimed at enhancing the sanitation infrastructure in Baramulla and Rajouri districts. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah confirmed the government’s commitment to address challenges posed by wastewater in the Union Territory. The Chief Minister’s Office disclosed that the funds will predominantly focus on the implementation of Used Water Management Projects in both districts.

The project allocated ₹37.96 crore for Baramulla and ₹34.43 crore for Rajouri is intended to facilitate the scientific treatment of sewage. This initiative aims to mitigate pollution levels in nearby water bodies, thereby improving public health, hygiene, and overall living conditions in those areas.

Authorities emphasise that these projects are crucial for sustainable urban development and are designed to cater to the growing needs of the population. The government’s proactive approach is expected to play a vital role in establishing a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.

Infrastructure Development Initiatives

In addition to the wastewater management projects, the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has approved a series of infrastructure development initiatives across the region. Among these is the augmentation of the Grid Sub Station at Zainakote, which will increase its capacity from 450 MVA to 780 MVA, with an estimated expenditure of ₹67.66 crore.

The Cabinet also approved the upgrading of vital transmission lines—specifically the 132 KV Pampore-Rawalpora and Rawalpora-Bemina lines—with a projected cost of ₹25.47 crore. This upgrade aims to enhance the area’s power infrastructure, ultimately leading to improved transmission capacity and a reduction in electricity outages for consumers in Srinagar and surrounding areas.

The focus on power infrastructure reflects the government’s intention to ensure a reliable electricity supply, which is critical for both residents and businesses. These measures are planned in line with the government’s broader strategy to improve service delivery across various sectors.

Healthcare Improvements in Srinagar

Healthcare services in Srinagar are also set to benefit from the recent decisions made by the Council of Ministers. An Integrated Solid Waste Management Project is planned for establishment at Achan, with a significant budget of ₹361 crore, aimed at processing 800 TPD of waste.

Furthermore, the Cabinet has authorised the upgradation and completion of the Sub-District Hospital at Hazratbal. To facilitate this, the government has granted relaxation on buffer zone restrictions under the Srinagar Master Plan 2035. This move is intended to bolster healthcare delivery in the region.

These developments underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing public welfare through improved infrastructure and health services. The initiatives will not only create a more functional healthcare system but also contribute significantly to the community’s well-being.
