The Viksit Gujarat Summit 2026 was convened at GIFT City in Gandhinagar with the aim of boosting Gujarat’s global competitiveness and technological advancement through innovation. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, under whose directives the event was organised, emphasised the need for Gujarat to carve a prominent space on the global stage. The summit was attended by key government officials, including Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia.

During his address, the Chief Minister reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s philosophy termed the “Politics of Performance,” aimed at fostering holistic development that encompasses economic growth and equitable opportunities for all citizens. He remarked on the transformative vision represented by ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Gujarat,’ which aspires to enhance the quality of life for every individual.

Highlighting the observance of National Handloom Day on August 7, Patel pointed out the Prime Minister’s initiatives launched since 2015 to support local artisans and promote the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement. He stated that these measures have opened up global market access for handloom products, contributing to socio-economic upliftment.

Technological Advancements and New Initiatives

Chief Minister Patel noted Gujarat’s evolution into a manufacturing hub and a leader in renewable energy, identifying the state’s rapid transition into a technology centre as a significant milestone. He highlighted the establishment of three functional semiconductor plants in the region, asserting that this marks Gujarat as an emerging player in the global technology landscape.

In line with the state’s progression, the Gujarat Government has also introduced a new GCC and Data Centre Policy aiming to set up hyperscale data centres in the forthcoming years. The Chief Minister mentioned that Gujarat stands to benefit significantly from a tax holiday extended by the Government of India for data centres through to 2047, fostering an appealing environment for new investments.

The AI Centre of Excellence, located within GIFT City, was cited as a vital link between technology and industry, further enhancing Gujarat’s robust banking and financial ecosystem. Patel conveyed confidence that the success of initiatives like the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit has solidified the state’s reputation as the ‘Global Gateway to the Future’ for industrial progress.

Investment and Development Initiatives in Gujarat

According to the recently published Investment Friendliness Index 2026 by NITI Aayog, Gujarat ranks first in the nation for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). Between April 2020 and 2025, the state received a cumulative FDI of $73.9 billion, reinforcing its status as the top destination for FDI in India since 2019.

He emphasised that the underlying principle of ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Gujarat’ is to ensure that developmental benefits reach every sector of society, thereby enhancing economic and social prosperity.
