The CSR Journal Magazine

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted a review meeting regarding the flooding situation in Surat on July 10, 2026. Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Union Minister of Jal Shakti CR Paatil, the meeting focused on addressing the aftermath of heavy rainfall that affected the region. This gathering brought together a range of officials and local legislators to assess damage and discuss relief efforts.

Following the review, Deputy CM Sanghavi commended the collaborative efforts of Surat’s residents and relief agencies during the floods. He emphasised the significance of community engagement, stating that local citizens had played a vital role in assisting government agencies throughout the crisis. Sanghavi noted, “Many areas in Surat faced severe flooding due to the torrential rains on July 7, marking a record rainfall for the city.”

According to reports, certain neighbourhoods experienced extensive waterlogging, impacting daily life and safety. The government agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), undertook extensive operations to rescue and relocate affected individuals.

Support for Flood-Affected Residents

Valsad MP Dhaval Patel highlighted the seriousness of the flood situation, detailing extensive property damage that occurred due to the recent weather. Following the heavy rains in the preceding days, areas such as Surat, Navsari, and Valsad experienced severe waterlogging, leading to a significant impact on residents and their property. Patel reported that Chief Minister Patel had taken proactive steps by engaging local leaders and administrators to strategise flood prevention measures in affected regions.

In an effort to mitigate future flooding risks, the Chief Minister announced a project with an allocation of Rs 500 crore focused on halting water intrusion from the creek into Surat. This proactive approach aims to strengthen infrastructure and reinforce the city’s resilience against potential floods.

Patel stated, “All MLAs, Mayors, and District Administrations participated in the meeting, ensuring that the state government is prepared to take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.” The collaborative effort aims to instil confidence within communities that thorough preparations are underway to address the challenges they face.

Ongoing Rescue Operations

As part of the flood management response, NDRF teams are engaged in ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts across Surat and its neighbouring regions. On July 9, rescue operations successfully evacuated a total of 85 individuals, providing critical support to those in urgent need. This team included a diverse group comprised of 36 males, 27 females, and 22 children.

The continuous efforts by local authorities and disaster response teams underscore the seriousness of the flood situation in Surat and its surroundings. Many areas struggle with the effects of waterlogging, placing immense pressure on local resources and necessitating a comprehensive approach to recovery.

As the government prioritises the welfare of affected residents, it remains crucial to monitor the situation closely and ensure ongoing support for flood relief initiatives. The collaboration between state authorities and local communities plays a significant role in overcoming the difficulties posed by natural disasters.
