CPI(M) Member of Parliament John Brittas has declared that the Opposition intends to escalate its protests regarding the leaks of examination papers. He reiterated the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during a demonstration held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in New Delhi. Brittas asserted that the efforts to press for Pradhan’s resignation would extend beyond the confines of Parliament, adding that the Opposition is resolute in its stance.

During his address to the media, Brittas was clear about the Opposition’s strategy, stating, “The protest will not be limited to Parliament. We will be hitting the streets. We have decided that we will stick to our demand for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. We will not go back an inch; he has to resign.” His remarks highlight a commitment to continued action against the current government’s handling of the situation.

RSP leader and MP NK Premachandran expressed disapproval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent proposal to establish fast-track courts aimed at addressing paper leak cases. He stated that the primary concern of the Opposition should focus on holding political figures accountable rather than merely expediting legal proceedings. Premachandran argued that the focus should not shift away from the demand for political responsibility within the government.

In his remarks, he alleged that various incidents of question paper leaks and malpractice have taken place without any political accountability being established. “Neither the students nor the youth in the country nor the Opposition parties have demanded any fast-track courts. The main demand of the Opposition, the youth and the students of this country is to fix some political accountability or responsibility,” he stated. His comments reflect a growing frustration among students and the Opposition regarding the government’s responses.

Premachandran further questioned the government’s reluctance to take decisive action against Pradhan, noting the plight of students affected by these leaks. “Thousands of students are in trouble, and more than 20 students have already committed suicide. So our main demand is first the resignation of the Minister,” he maintained, emphasising that addressing this issue is paramount.

The tension in Parliament was palpable as conflict arose between members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and those from the INDIA coalition at Makar Dwar.
