Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently inaugurated a large ‘Tiranga Rally’ from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar, commemorating the upcoming 80th Independence Day celebrations. This event is a significant part of the ongoing efforts to foster national pride within the region.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary spoke to ANI during the event, highlighting the historical attachment the people of Jammu and Kashmir have towards the national flag. He noted that this dedication has endured well beyond recent political shifts, asserting that the Tricolour has consistently symbolised Indian pride since Independence on August 15, 1947.

Choudhary emphasised the importance of recognising the sacrifices made by the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir for the flag, insisting that these contributions should not be assessed merely in the context of the changes enacted on August 5, 2019. He remarked that the region’s celebrations of patriotism have remained unchanged over the decades, with profound sacrifices made for the nation across various locations.

Public Sentiment Shifts Towards National Pride

Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, praised the rally, describing the current mood in Jammu and Kashmir as reflective of a brighter future. She stated that the Tiranga rallies, initiated across India under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signify a transition toward a more hopeful era for the region.

Andrabi noted that the display of the national flag today resonates deeply with the youth of Kashmir and is witnessed across diverse age groups. She commented that the visible pride in the flag signifies a renaissance of sentiment that had been diminished in past decades.

Highlighting the shift in the region’s societal dynamics, Andrabi remarked on the rarity of such public displays of national pride in Kashmir over the last thirty-five years. She expressed that the present atmosphere reflects a collective aspiration to unite with the broader national narrative and reinforces a shared identity among the populace.

‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign Reinforces National Unity

The rally is part of the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which aims to inspire citizens to display the national flag at their residences as India approaches its milestone 80th year of independence. This initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022 as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, seeks to deepen the personal connection between citizens and the Tricolour.

This year’s Independence Day celebrations will pay special tribute to the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’. Across various districts, blocks, and panchayats, numerous activities are planned as part of the campaign to honour freedom fighters and enhance the spirit of patriotism throughout the country.

Key features of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in 2026 will involve Tiranga rallies, exhibitions, concerts, and decorated venues illuminated in the Tricolour. Additionally, interactive initiatives such as the ‘Selfie with Tiranga’ campaign are designed to engage citizens and encourage them to celebrate their national identity.
