CBSE Clarifies Students Can Use UPI, Cards, Net Banking for Re-evaluation Payments

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that students do not need to hold accounts with specific banks to process payments for the re-evaluation of their examination results. This announcement, made on June 3, was aimed at addressing concerns raised by students facing issues with the Verification and Re-evaluation portal.

In a statement shared on X, the board underscored that a variety of online payment options are available for students. These include Unified Payments Interface (UPI), net banking, and payments through credit and debit cards, all of which can be accessed via designated gateways on the portal.

The CBSE further noted that the payment gateways from State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Indian Bank are available for students. However, it emphasised that having an account with these banks is not a requirement for completing the payment process.

Student Applications and Participation

The CBSE reported that as of 9:30 am on the same day, nearly 40,000 students had successfully completed their applications for re-evaluation without encountering any issues. This substantial number indicates a positive response to the new payment flexibility provided by the board.

Students have been encouraged to rely on official communications from CBSE to ensure they have accurate information regarding their application process. The board’s commitment to facilitating a smooth re-evaluation process has been a focus amid ongoing challenges surrounding examination evaluations.

This clarification comes in light of recent allegations from Delhi’s Leader of Opposition, Atishi, who claimed that payments for re-evaluation could only be made via accounts in specified banks. Her comments raised concerns about access for students who may not hold accounts in those banks.

Context of Controversies Surrounding CBSE

The issue arises amidst broader discussions about the CBSE’s evaluation processes, particularly concerning the Class 12th answer sheets. Reports of irregularities have been highlighted in recent months, drawing scrutiny to the organisation’s examination administration and evaluation methods.

The concerns over the payment portal, which has faced criticism for technical glitches, have further complicated matters for students seeking re-evaluation. Despite these criticisms, the CBSE has aimed to reassure the public of its efforts to improve and streamline the re-evaluation process.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has faced criticism as well, with political figures questioning the management of the CBSE’s operations. While the minister has responded to challenges in the administration, calls for greater accountability continue to grow in the political arena.
