Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has announced a nationwide initiative aimed at enhancing government schools in rural areas. This campaign encourages parents to conduct social audits of essential facilities and calls on village leaders, known as sarpanches, to take a proactive role in improving local educational establishments. Set to commence on August 15, this effort seeks to address the deficiencies in rural educational infrastructure, which the CJP describes as severely neglected.

Through a video message, Dipke indicated that he would initiate the campaign in his own village, Hingoli in Maharashtra, by reaching out to local leaders to advocate for improvements at nearby government schools. “The upcoming 15th August marks our 80th Independence Day. However, one of the most overlooked issues in the last eight decades has been the state of government schools in our villages,” he stated.

Focus on Challenges Faced by Village Schools

Dipke raised concerns about the apparent prioritisation of urban projects, such as a new Parliament and Prime Minister’s residence, over the necessity for upgraded school facilities in rural settings. He questioned the government’s perspective on children from farming and labouring families, highlighting their importance for the country’s future. Furthermore, he pointed out that many students must travel considerable distances to attend school, often facing inadequate access to basic amenities like drinking water and sanitation.

Particularly focusing on the hardships endured by girls due to insufficient washroom facilities, Dipke stressed that improving government schools should be a top priority for a new beginning on Independence Day. He contended that the educational needs of rural children must not be overlooked any longer.

The Sarpanch Challenge for Village Leaders

The CJP has launched a programme dubbed the “Sarpanch Challenge,” which invites sarpanches throughout India to commit to improving government schools in their villages. Dipke plans to personally engage with the village head in Hingoli and has encouraged other village leaders to do likewise. The campaign includes a strategy for recognising village heads who successfully enhance their schools by sharing photographic evidence of improvements on social media.

Dipke commented that highlighting the work of proactive sarpanches would inspire others to follow suit, thereby creating a ripple effect throughout various communities. The CJP aims to create an environment where school improvements become a shared goal among village leaders.

Additionally, community members will have their efforts acknowledged publicly, fostering a sense of pride and responsibility in the educational development of their villages.

Empowering Parents Through Social Audits

The CJP is also facilitating a citizen-led social audit of government schools by enlisting parents to evaluate the basic facilities available in these institutions. Parents are encouraged to visit schools and document the availability of resources, including electricity, clean drinking water, functional restrooms, and mid-day meals.

Dipke has urged parents to capture videos if they identify any shortcomings in essential amenities. The CJP plans to offer a printable audit form that community members can utilise to record both existing and lacking facilities. This form will be distributed through links shared on the CJP’s official social media channels.

Dipke emphasised the importance of good schooling, asserting that it constitutes a fundamental right for children in rural areas. The campaign aims to ensure equitable access to quality education for all children, regardless of their background.
