US To Host Global Conference On ‘Far-Left Political Terrorism’ Under Marco Rubio

The CSR Journal Magazine

The United States will host an international ministerial conference on Thursday to discuss what it described as the resurgence of “far-left political terrorism” and ways to strengthen global cooperation against the threat. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will chair the meeting.

According to the US Department of State, the conference will bring together partners from the Western Hemisphere, Europe and Asia to improve information sharing, disrupt terrorist financing and strengthen international law enforcement cooperation. India is unlikely to participate in the meeting.

US Says Far-Left Terrorism Is Re-Emerging Globally

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the State Department said “far-left political terrorism is resurgent, manifesting in violent terrorist acts across the Western Hemisphere, Europe, Asia and beyond.”

It added, “These are not isolated incidents. They reflect a deliberate, ideologically motivated strategy to destabilise free societies by violently targeting our political and economic systems, including attacks against private citizens, government officials, police and law enforcement, businesses, and critical infrastructure around the globe.”

The department said the conference would emphasise the need for deeper international cooperation to map violent activity, disrupt terrorist financing, protect critical infrastructure and promote collective action “against a threat that respects no borders”.

US Says Threat Has Been Underestimated

The State Department said the international community had for too long overlooked the threat posed by far-left political terrorism.

It said the issue had remained a blind spot in global counterterrorism efforts and had been underestimated and under-resourced despite the risks it posed.

According to the department, the United States has taken a leading role in addressing the threat through a series of measures introduced since late 2025.

Four Groups Designated As Terrorist Organisations

The State Department said that since November 2025, the United States has designated four organisations as both Foreign Terrorist Organisations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists.

The groups named are Antifa Ost, the Informal Anarchist Federation-International Revolutionary Front (FAI-FRI), Armed Proletarian Justice, and Revolutionary Class Self-Defence.

The department also announced a reward of up to USD 10 million for information leading to the disruption of the financial networks supporting these organisations.

Conference To Focus On International Coordination

The State Department said the United States has, in recent months, engaged law enforcement agencies, counterterrorism professionals and prosecutors through direct cooperation and multilateral initiatives.

It cited the inaugural Counterterrorism Law Enforcement Workshop held in May 2026, which brought together representatives from 14 countries to exchange best practices for tackling transnational far-left terrorism.

According to the department, Thursday’s ministerial conference is intended to build on those efforts by expanding international coordination, improving information sharing and strengthening law enforcement mechanisms to counter what it described as a growing transnational threat.
