A 38-year-old man carrying a concealed firearm was arrested outside Trump National Golf Club in Southern California after federal agents reported suspicious activity on the property, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities said the investigation is continuing to determine whether the suspect posed any threat to US President Donald Trump.

The arrest took place on Sunday outside the golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes, where Trump is scheduled to attend a Republican National Committee fundraising dinner. Federal and local agencies are jointly investigating the incident, although officials said they have not identified any credible threat to the public.

Suspect Arrested Outside Golf Club

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was identified as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele of Downey.

Authorities alleged that Taele was taking photographs and videos on the golf course grounds and appeared to be monitoring security-related activities before being detained.

CNN, citing a federal law enforcement source, reported that investigators have found no indication that the suspect was planning an attack on President Trump, although the investigation remains active.

Trump was travelling aboard Air Force One to California when authorities announced the arrest. He is scheduled to attend a Republican National Committee dinner at the Rancho Palos Verdes golf course on Tuesday evening.

Weapons and Ammunition Recovered

The sheriff’s department said Taele was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of prohibited ammunition.

Authorities also said he is under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in connection with a robbery case.

According to Fox News, investigators recovered an illegally modified AR-style rifle, body armour, high-capacity magazines, ammunition and notebooks containing what officials described as “concerning statements” during a search of the suspect’s residence.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department later said detectives executing a search warrant also recovered a .45-calibre pistol, radio signal devices and additional ammunition.

Federal Agencies Continue Investigation

US Attorney Bill Essayli said the investigation remains ongoing and that federal authorities are reviewing the evidence.

“This is an active investigation. My office, along with @FBILosAngeles and @LosAngelesATF, is reviewing the evidence and will provide more information when possible,” Essayli said in a post on X.

The search of the suspect’s residence was carried out by detectives assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force because of what the sheriff’s department described as the “potential security implications surrounding the incident”.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the US Secret Service are assisting with the investigation, and authorities said additional charges could be filed as the inquiry progresses.

While officials said they have “identified no credible threat to our communities”, they added that the case demonstrates the importance of coordination between local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in responding to suspicious activity before it escalates.
