Randeep Hooda, the renowned Bollywood actor, visited the village of Sarupothar in Assam’s Golaghat district, the home of his longtime helper, Sagar Limbu. This visit took place as he returned from his participation in flood relief efforts across the state. Hooda expressed that he felt compelled to make the journey after learning that Limbu’s village was nearby.

During a conversation, Hooda described Sarupothar as an exceptionally beautiful location, populated by cheerful and warm-hearted residents. He mentioned that after spending the previous night in Lukuto village, Nagaland, arriving in Sarupothar left him overwhelmed by its scenic charm, comparing it to ‘heaven on earth.’

In a light-hearted comment, Hooda referred to himself as the ‘jamai’ of the North East region, saying that he was greeted with such hospitality that it seemed to define his experience. He noted that this visit marked his first time in this part of Assam and expressed gratitude for the decision to explore the area.

Connection to Local Sports Achievements

While interacting with local residents and journalists, Hooda discovered that Sarupothar has produced renowned athletes, including Olympian boxer Lovlina Borgohain and athlete Nayanmoni Saikia. Hooda was reportedly taken aback to learn about their origins in the village and remarked that it appeared to be a hub for sporting talent.

He elaborated on this observation by drawing a parallel between Sarupothar and Haryana, his home state, where he indicated that most villages foster a similar sporting culture. Hooda’s comments suggest that he was impressed by the community’s achievements in athletics.

His visit came during a significant time when numerous districts in Assam, including Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Nagaon, have faced the devastating effects of floods. Hooda’s remarks reinforced the sense of pride and potential he observed during his visit.

Humanitarian Efforts in Flood-Affected Regions

Prior to his visit to Sarupothar, Hooda had been deeply involved in various relief initiatives aimed at supporting areas impacted by recent floods. He travelled to Upper Assam, notably Sivasagar, where he collaborated with the humanitarian organisation Global Sikh.

During his time in the flood-hit regions, Hooda engaged with affected families and offered assistance where possible. He also took the opportunity to interact with volunteers working tirelessly to provide essential supplies to those in need. His commitment to the relief work seemed to be the catalyst for his visit to Limbu’s village.

Concluding his time in Sarupothar, Hooda expressed heartfelt gratitude to the local community for the warm welcome he received. He noted that their generosity and kindness had greatly enhanced his experience, leaving him with positive impressions of not just the landscape but the people who inhabit it.
