The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has declared its support for aspirants protesting against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). On August 5, 2026, JMM’s General Secretary and National Spokesperson Vinod Pandey confirmed that the Jharkhand government would establish a high-level committee within one or two days to evaluate and address the protesters’ demands.

Pandey expressed concerns about the ongoing protests, stating, “JMM stands with aspirants in their protest…we know their demands.” He assured that appropriate actions would be taken based on the evidence gathered regarding the recruitment process. The statement comes in light of the continuous protests sparked by the announcement of results for the 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination on July 5.

Protests Erupt Following Examination Results

The protests prompted by the JPSC results have seen students engage in round-the-clock demonstrations, including an indefinite sit-in, demanding transparency in the examination processes. Participants have voiced frustrations over perceived irregularities and a lack of accountability from the relevant authorities. The agitation aims to highlight concerns that have persisted over several years, further escalating following the recent examination results.

On August 5, student leader Devendra Nath Mahato concluded his indefinite hunger strike at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. This decision came after a meeting with renowned activist Sonam Wangchuk, who offered support to the students’ cause. Mahato initiated the hunger strike on Sunday night to draw attention to the ongoing issues faced by examination aspirants, whose protests have gained traction in recent weeks.

During the conversation, Mahato expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “I don’t want to break my fast. People have been deeply troubled by the situation for the past 26 years.” He underscored the importance of steadfast commitment from Wangchuk and urged him to guarantee continued support for their movement, which seeks justice and transparency in the recruitment process.

Demands for Examination Review and Cancellation

The protesters are calling for the cancellation of the Preliminary Test for the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Examination as well as a thorough review of the examinations conducted through TDPL agencies. They assert that the integrity of the recruitment process has been compromised, leading to widespread discontent among aspirants.

Following his discussions with Wangchuk, Mahato mentioned, “With one condition, I have accepted water from Sonam sir.” He explained that the condition for his rehydration was Wangchuk’s commitment to actively support their cause until the end of the protests. This engagement has heightened hopes among the protestors regarding a resolution to their grievances.

As the protests continue, the JMM’s involvement and promises of governmental action may influence the trajectory of the movement, which has already captured significant attention across the state. With the expected formation of the high-level committee, aspirants are cautiously optimistic that their concerns will be addressed adequately in the near future.
