PM Modi Celebrates Seven Years Since Article 370 Abrogation and Highlights Development in J&K

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A has led to a transformative period for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Seven years after the constitutional changes of August 5, 2019, he stated that the regions have seen notable advancements in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social empowerment.

The repeal of Article 370 effectively removed the special status previously granted to Jammu and Kashmir, dividing it into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This shift has purportedly fostered a more inclusive environment where rights are assured for all citizens, particularly those from marginalised communities.

Modi remarked on social empowerment, emphasising that women and historically disenfranchised groups have been significantly uplifted through the complete application of the Constitution of India. He asserted that these changes have generated expansive opportunities for prosperity and growth.

Key Developments in Infrastructure and Tourism

The Prime Minister highlighted the infrastructural growth in Jammu and Kashmir as a marker of progress. He noted increased developments in healthcare and educational facilities, which are essential for community well-being and skill enhancement. PM Modi’s comments suggest a focus on creating a robust foundation for future growth.

Moreover, the Central government has indicated that the region is increasingly recognised for its cultural heritage. Srinagar has received global acknowledgment as a UNESCO Creative City and World Craft City, showcasing the rich craftsmanship of the area. Efforts to promote tourism have reportedly attracted numerous visitors to Srinagar and the renowned Dal Lake.

Spiritual tourism has also been on the rise, with over 5 million devotees visiting the Vaishno Devi temple and significant participation in the Amarnath pilgrimage. These increases reflect a revitalised trust and enthusiasm among people towards these spiritual sites, further enhancing the region’s profile as a destination for pilgrimage.

Recognition of National Unity and Commitment to Progress

The seventh anniversary of the abrogation holds special relevance this year as it aligns with the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a figure whose vision for national unity has been reaffirmed by PM Modi. The Prime Minister stated that the fulfilment of Mookerjee’s aspirations on August 5, 2019, continues to inspire current and future generations.

PM Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to the continuous development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, asserting that every citizen should have the chance to achieve their ambitions and contribute towards building a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat”.

In addition, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed praise for the steps taken in 2019, referring to the date as a “golden day” in India’s history. He underscored the journey from conflict to peaceful integration and progress in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing this change to the leadership of Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Adityanath commended the abrogation of Article 370 as a realisation of the patriotic dream of Dr. Mookerjee. He lauded the region’s transformation into a symbol of New India’s goals and aspirations, emphasising gratitude towards the leadership for their commitment to national integrity and development.
