The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced a significant reform aimed at improving transparency in the Civil Services Examination by introducing a Provisional Answer Key. Starting from the 2026 Preliminary examination, lakhs of candidates will be able to access the official answer keys shortly after the exam, allowing for a more immediate assessment of their performance.

Previously, candidates endured long waits—sometimes lasting several months or even nearly a year—for the release of official answer keys. This often led to a dependency on unofficial keys provided by coaching institutes for score estimation. Dr Ajay Kumar, the Chairman of UPSC, described this initiative as “a new beginning,” highlighting the Commission’s commitment to improving responsiveness and communication with candidates.
