UPSC has announced the opening of applications for direct recruitment to various government positions under the Indian administration. Eligible candidates can commence their applications starting from July 25, with the deadline set for August 14. This information has been made available through a formal press release issued by the Union Public Service Commission.

The application process is to be carried out online via the Online Recruitment Application (ORA) portal. Prospective candidates are encouraged to carefully review the detailed instructions and advertisements published on the official UPSC website prior to submitting their applications.

The commission has highlighted the importance of adherence to these guidelines, as they provide crucial information regarding the available vacancies, eligibility requirements, selection methodologies, and overall application procedures.

Recent Technological Reforms in UPSC Examination Process

This recruitment announcement follows a recent initiative by the UPSC to enhance its examination integrity through technological reforms. In June 2023, the commission successfully implemented a real-time face authentication system during the Civil Services and Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination, 2026, to deter impersonation and mitigate examination malpractices.

According to UPSC officials, this mobile phone-based system allows invigilators to verify candidates by comparing their live images with photographs submitted during the application phase. This significant undertaking was executed across 2,072 examination centres nationwide, utilising a solution developed in partnership with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The commission has created an extensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the implementation of this facial authentication system and has trained invigilators throughout the country. The application, compatible with standard Android smartphones, is capable of authenticating candidates in about six to eight seconds, facilitating efficient entry into examination venues.

Impact on Examination Integrity

During peak operational hours, the application was reportedly used by over 7,000 invigilators, processing nearly 12,000 facial authentications each minute for approximately 5.5 lakh candidates. This efficient system not only streamlined the examination process but also reinforced the commission’s commitment to maintaining examination integrity.

UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar has articulated that this initiative represents a crucial advancement toward ensuring examination authenticity. He emphasised that the successful deployment of this technology underlines the commission’s dedication to transparency and fairness in public examinations.

The introduction of such technology is expected to serve as a deterrent to potential malpractices and foster greater trust in the examination process among candidates and stakeholders alike. The UPSC aims to continuously improve its systems to align with modern standards and uphold the credibility of its recruitment examinations.
