Sanjay Raut Criticises Defection of UBT MPs to Shinde-Led Shiv Sena

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sanjay Raut, a Member of Parliament from Shiv Sena (UBT), has openly criticised six Lok Sabha MPs who recently defected to the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde. Raut took to social media to express his disapproval, highlighting concerns over the financial implications of their transition. In a post on X, Raut questioned the source of funding for their travel using chartered aircraft, alleging it reflects a disregard for public resources.

He stated, “Eighty-five crores! The price of this Member of Parliament! Loot the public’s wealth! Who is paying lakhs of rupees for the chartered plane?” Through this statement, Raut has underscored the controversy surrounding the MPs’ decision to switch allegiances, framing it as a betrayal of public trust.

The six Lok Sabha MPs who joined the Shinde-led faction include Sanjay Haribhau Jadhav, Bhausaheb Rajaram Wakchaure, Omprakash Bhupalsingh Nimbalkar, Sanjay Dina Patil, Sanjay Uttamrao Deshmukh, and Nagesh Bapurao Patil Ashtikar. Their formal induction into the Shinde-led party occurred on June 22, 2023.

Shinde Declares Success of ‘Operation Tiger’

During a press conference, Eknath Shinde, the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, announced the successful completion of what he termed ‘Operation Tiger.’ Shinde stressed that the integration of the six MPs was conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions and parliamentary protocols. He assured the media that the MPs have joined the alliance for developmental governance and commitment to constituency issues.

Shinde remarked, “I don’t leave anything half done,” confirming the MPs’ allegiance to the newly formed faction. He further emphasised, “All these six MPs have been inducted into our party as per the rule, the constitution and parliamentary rules.” His statements provide insight into his perspective on the political landscape and the motivations behind the MPs’ switch.

He also expressed his dedication to supporting the new members, stating that they would be treated with respect and support, resembling the approach he took during his time as Chief Minister. Shinde assured that he and his ministers would assist in addressing the concerns of the MPs’ constituencies, assuring them that their decision to join the party would be respected.

Thackeray Plans to Address Ongoing Political Situation

In light of the recent defections, Uddhav Thackeray, the chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), indicated that he would soon provide a detailed response to the evolving political circumstances. Thackeray acknowledged the significant setback facing the party due to the departures and assured that he would communicate the organisation’s position at the appropriate time.

He remarked, “When I feel the time is right, I will call the media and speak to you.” Thackeray refrained from giving extensive commentary on the rebellion but indicated an intention to present the party’s counterarguments regarding the defection. His statements reflect the tension and challenges that the organisation is currently experiencing.

This political development has prompted various reactions among party members and supporters, highlighting differing perspectives on governance and party loyalty. The ongoing situation within Shiv Sena (UBT) poses crucial questions about the future dynamics within Maharashtra’s political landscape.
