Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar has addressed the use of offensive language directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi during recent protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party. In an Instagram video, Pednekar stated that such language is inappropriate for someone holding the country’s highest office. The 37-year-old emphasised that while citizens have the right to voice concerns regarding education and systemic issues, the way in which dissent is articulated matters significantly.

Pednekar highlighted the cultural implications of the language used, particularly by the younger generation. She remarked, “Looking at the videos surfacing now, the kind of language being used… this isn’t how we talk. We are addressing someone in the highest office of the land. Would we speak like this to elders in our homes? Can abusive language really be justified?”

In her appeal to the youth, she asserted that the essence of Indian culture is rooted in respect and civil discourse. “This isn’t our culture; it’s wrong, and this really bothered me,” she added. Pednekar stressed the importance of progressing as a nation through collective discussion on its flaws and achievements.

Controversy Surrounding the Protests

The remarks from Pednekar come amidst widespread controversy about the tone and conduct during protests related to the NEET paper leak. These protests gained national attention after some participants were recorded using vulgar slogans against political figures and security personnel. An FIR was reportedly filed against an individual named Ruchika for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Modi.

In a separate incident, actor Mukesh Khanna reacted to the protests via Instagram, referring to those supporting the student protests as “cockroaches.” He claimed these individuals should be removed from society and suggested that the protests were not genuinely about the students affected by the paper leak, but rather an agenda aimed at destabilising the government.

Khanna expressed concern about the youth’s future, postulating that if the current generation represents the country’s leadership in 25 years, the future may be bleak. He alleged that the students were being manipulated to engage in inappropriate public behaviour and warned them that their actions could have long-term repercussions on their careers.

Broader Reactions and Responses

The protests have also drawn criticism from other public figures, including actor and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut. She posted a video on Instagram, labelling the protestors as part of a “generation gutter,” and condemned what she described as obscene behaviour during the demonstrations linked to the NEET paper leak.

Ranaut expressed her view on the need for decorum in protests and urged against normalising such conduct. She emphasised that the students must be held accountable for their words and actions.

Both Pednekar and Khanna’s remarks reflect a growing concern among public figures about the nature of protests and the conduct of younger generations in expressing dissent.
