The Chairman of the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma), K S Mani, has stated that there was no lapse in the quality of ghee supplied to Sabarimala. He asserted that only premium ghee, meeting all necessary standards, was dispatched to the renowned pilgrimage site. The clarification was made during a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram on August 3.

Mani highlighted that every batch of ghee sent to Sabarimala underwent rigorous quality checks. He emphasized that the federation has consistently prioritised the quality and purity of its dairy products. Milma operates as a co-operative organisation, supporting the dairy farmers of Kerala.

Quality Control Measures Emphasised

The Milma Chairman explained that the ghee dispatched to Sabarimala was packaged in fully sealed 15 kg tins, which are designed to prevent any alteration or tampering during transit. According to him, all Milma dairies adhere to stringent quality protocols, maintaining a uniform standard across their products.

During the press conference, Milma’s Managing Director, Asif K Yusuf, was also present, reinforcing the importance of the standards implemented in the production process. Mani noted that once the consignments reached the Sabarimala storage facility, the handling of the ghee fell outside the federation’s jurisdiction.

Additonally, Mani indicated that Milma has not received any official communication from the Travancore Devaswom Board regarding any quality issues with the ghee. He confirmed that the federation had received full payment for the supplied products.

Concerns Over Potential Tampering

In case any substandard product replaced Milma’s ghee after delivery, Mani stated it would constitute a serious offence. He urged for accountability, emphasising that individuals responsible for such tampering must be identified and face prosecution under both civil and criminal law.

Furthermore, addressing media reports, he mentioned that the Travancore Devaswom Board currently receives adequate quantities of ghee daily from devotees. Therefore, there is no immediate requirement for additional procurement from external sources.

Mani reiterated that the trust of consumers and the welfare of dairy farmers are vital to Milma’s operations. He assured that the federation’s procurement, production, and distribution processes are transparent and adhere to strict quality controls. This commitment reflects Milma’s aim to sustain the interests of both consumers and producers alike.

The Chairman further declared that Milma remains dedicated to supporting dairy farmers through various welfare initiatives. These initiatives are intended to create sustainable livelihoods while strengthening the dairy sector in Kerala.
