The Pamba River is currently overflowing in the neighbouring Pathanamthitta district, heightening fears of flooding in affected areas. Authorities have issued a Red Alert for the catchment region of the Moozhiyar Dam, cautioning residents that the dam may need to be opened if conditions worsen.

Chief Minister’s Visit and Government Response

Keralam’s Chief Minister, VD Satheesan, has announced plans to visit flood-affected areas in Pathanamthitta to assess the situation firsthand. He will be reviewing the impacts in regions including Ranni and Aranmula, as well as inspecting relief camps that have been established for displaced families.

In a statement shared via X, the Chief Minister expressed his intent to interact with residents and oversee disaster management operations, ensuring that basic amenities are available in relief camps. “I will be heading to Pathanamthitta to directly assess the flood situation,” he stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to aid those affected.

Moreover, CM Satheesan has assured that the matter of additional financial assistance for flood victims will be brought up in the upcoming Cabinet meeting. He emphasised the need for urgent action across various departments to address issues arising from the severe waterlogging.
