The CSR Journal Magazine

A student preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) was discovered deceased in an apparent suicide at his residence in Patna on April 21 at approximately 8:30 pm. Police officials reported that the individual, identified as Saurabh Kumar, was the son of Mahesh Yadav and hailed from Amas in Gaya district. At the time of the incident, he was living in Patna with his cousins Mukesh Kumar and Akshay Kumar, both of whom were also studying for competitive exams.

The three relatives had secured two rooms in a hostel, with one dedicated to studying and the other for sleeping. During the incident, Mukesh and Akshay were attending their coaching classes. When they returned and found Saurabh unresponsive with the door locked, they looked inside and subsequently alerted the authorities.

Upon receipt of the information, officers from the Gandhi Maidan Police Station, accompanied by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, arrived at the scene to investigate. They discovered a suicide note within Saurabh’s room, which reportedly addressed his parents.

Details of the Suicide Note

According to Police Station House Officer (SHO) Akhilesh Mishra, the suicide note was attributed to Saurabh’s parents and indicated that academic pressure had led him to take this drastic step. It stated that he felt no one else bore responsibility for his actions. The note mentioned his struggles with grasping the coursework despite studying intensively through the night and cited his inability to achieve desired academic results as a contributing factor.

The police elaborated that the students were preparing for different set of examinations. While Saurabh was focused on the JEE, his cousins were gearing up for jail examinations. On the day of the incident, Saurabh had not attended his coaching classes, which raised concern among his cousins upon their return.

Authorities were informed that when they attempted to open the door without success, they peeked through a ventilator and reportedly observed Saurabh hanging. The police team subsequently had to force entry into the room to commence their investigation and to recover the body.

Investigation and Family Notification

The body of Saurabh Kumar was sent for post-mortem examination, and police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have also made contact with the deceased’s family to inform them of the incident. The police are examining all angles of the case to ascertain further details, and relevant investigative procedures are being followed.

As this case unfolds, the community and relatives are left grappling with the tragic circumstances surrounding Saurabh’s death. The focus remains on understanding the underlying pressures faced by students in the competitive Indian education system and providing necessary support to prevent such incidents in the future.

Further updates regarding the investigation and related developments are anticipated as police continue their inquiry into the incident. The situation has raised questions about the mental health and academic pressures experienced by students in similar high-stakes environments.
