Priyanka Gandhi Condemns Kulgam Terror Attack

Congress Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has publicly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, describing the incident as “shameful” and “inhumane.” In a statement released on X, she condemned the killing of two labourers who were working at a brick kiln during the assault.

In her remarks, Priyanka Gandhi highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, “The cowardly terrorist attack that took place in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is extremely shameful and reprehensible.” She emphasised that such acts are both loathsome and inhumane, asserting that the degree of condemnation offered cannot suffice in the face of such violence.

Furthermore, Priyanka Gandhi conveyed her condolences to the victims’ families, indicating that the sympathies of the entire nation are with them in this time of sorrow.

Recent Developments in the Incident

Following the attack, reports indicate that the second non-local labourer, critically injured during the incident, succumbed to his injuries on the morning of August 1. This development has raised the death toll to two. The injured individual had been receiving treatment at a local hospital after the attack occurred on the evening of July 31.

According to local officials, the attacker opened fire on non-local workers in the Kellam area of Kulgam. Despite efforts from the medical team, the injured person unfortunately passed away early Saturday morning.

The tragic event had prompted immediate action from security forces, who cordoned off the Kellam area and launched a major search operation aimed at apprehending the perpetrators. The police have officially confirmed the attacks, marking a worrying escalation in violence in the region.

Government Officials Respond to the Attack

In response to the attack, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha voiced strong condemnation, particularly focusing on the loss of life in this incident. He noted that a labourer from Chhattisgarh was among the deceased and indicated a commitment to intensifying security operations in the area.

Lieutenant Governor Sinha stated, “I spoke with the DGP, Shri Nalin Prabhat, and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam.” He reaffirmed the need for swift action against those responsible, indicating that operations will be stepped up to eliminate the terrorists. The response from local security forces has already led to the area being cordoned off.

Further expressing his dismay, Sinha extended condolences to the grieving family members and stressed the urgency of providing medical care to the injured, who was also from Chhattisgarh. The Lieutenant Governor’s comments highlight the seriousness with which local authorities view this incident, illustrating a broader commitment to ensuring safety and justice for the affected families.
