Police in the Palghar district of Maharashtra have arrested seven individuals in connection with a purported murder conspiracy targeting industrialist Mohan Singh Laxman Singh Parmar. The alleged plot is said to hinge on a loan of Rs 32 crore. Authorities believe that the attack was premeditated to eliminate Parmar and circumvent financial obligations that would have emerged from the loan agreement.

Investigators from the Valiv Police have identified Sagar Girish Bhanushali as the alleged mastermind behind the conspiracy. Bhanushali is reportedly a partner at GSM Foils Limited, based in Vasai’s Diamond Industrial Estate. Evidence suggests that he incurred significant losses in the stock market and subsequently fell into debt, compelling him to resort to drastic measures.

According to police reports, the motive behind the attack was to remove Parmar, as his death would cancel the existing loan repayment and afford Bhanushali complete control over the business. The attack transpired on the night of July 24, just outside Parmar’s office premises in the Naikpada area of Vasai East.

Details Of The Attack And Immediate Aftermath

On the mentioned date, two assailants approached Parmar on a motorcycle and reportedly fired shots at him as he exited his office. The businessman was hit in the shoulder and sustained serious injuries during the incident. Initial accounts reveal that the firearm malfunctioned after the first shot, leading one of the attackers to strike Parmar with the weapon’s butt before they fled the scene.

After the assault, Parmar was rushed to a private hospital, where he underwent surgical procedures. Medical staff have since reported that his condition is stable and has shown significant improvement. An investigating officer confirmed that “the victim’s health has improved considerably, and he is in stable condition.”

The police department achieved a breakthrough in the case by meticulously analysing CCTV footage, call detail records, and other technical data. Investigators were able to trace the motorcycle involved in the attack, which was found to possess a fraudulent registration number plate. This led to a special police team travelling to Uttar Pradesh for further investigation.

Further Investigations And Implications

During ongoing investigations, authorities apprehended Sujit Devendrabhai Pandey, identified as the shooter, along with Manoj Thathera, who is suspected of supplying the weapon. Several others believed to be connected to the conspiracy were also arrested. Additional Police Commissioner Sanjay Shintre stated that the investigation continues, aided by various forms of scientific, forensic, and financial evidence.

Moreover, police are delving deeper into the possibility of a broader financial or organised criminal network being involved in the conspiracy. This case has raised concerns about what investigators describe as a meticulously orchestrated murder-for-gain scheme, which appears to be deeply intertwined with business rivalries and significant financial transactions.

With seven individuals already in custody, investigators remain vigilant and are exploring potential additional suspects or connections that may arise as the case unfolds. The police’s multi-faceted approach aims to bring to light the extent of the conspiracy and the motivations behind it.
